HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Downtown Kiwanis Chili and Soup Fest is Saturday in Hutchinson.

"We will have some ticket booths at DCI Park and at Avenue A Park," said Dana Hinshaw with Kiwanis. "People will pay $6 to participate and that is for 10 and older. Anybody under 10 years old that's with a paying adult will be free. They can just walk around and they get to try each of the chilis and soups and of course, they'll have a ballot that they can vote for what their favorite is."

There will be seven chilis and six soups competing, including the Hutchinson Fire Department, the defending chili champion.

"The money goes to the Kiwanis treasury," said Bob Ross with Kiwanis. "Our focus in on children and community. We share those funds with different organizations throughout the community and other programs. We have one where we're providing Christmas gifts for Head Start next month. We provide gift bags. We also provide food for Circles of Hope and we also contribute to the Salvation Army."

The event starts at 11 a.m. and goes until the chili and soup are gone, usually about 1 p.m.
