Leslie Lee Sanborn Sr., 80, died November 12, 2023, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born January 9, 1943, in Salina, to William R. and Mildred I. (Parmly) Sanborn.

Les graduated from Salina High School in 1961 and Fort Hays State University in 1970, with a degree in accounting, passing the CPA exam in 1975. He worked at and co-owned several accounting firms in Kansas, lastly being a family firm, Sanborn & Daughters Ltd, with his daughters in Hutchinson. Les continued to work in the field of accounting until his 80th birthday this year. He was a car aficionado and owned many cars over his lifetime, drag raced when he was younger, and also owned a Chevrolet dealership, Sanborn Brothers Chevrolet, in the 1970s, with his younger brother in St. John, Kansas. Les was also an avid golfer both at the Highlands and later Carey Park. He loved woodworking, making furniture, carvings of all kinds, and also completely remodeled several buildings in Hutchinson, including his home/office at 1006 N. Main and office at 525 N. Main.  

On December 27, 1966, Les married Barbara Jean Waldschmidt in Hays. They shared nearly 57 years of marriage before his passing. She survives.

Also surviving are: his children, Stacey Bryant (Adam) of Colwich, Stefanie Sanborn-Miller (Mike) of Hutchinson, Leslie L. Sanborn II of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Abigail Bryant, Mason Bryant (Kelsey), Braden Miller; sister, Linda Ford (Cole) of Ipswich, England; and many extended family members.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers David Sanborn, William “Billy” Sanborn; and sisters, Joyce Ditto and Carol “Sue” Sanborn.

Cremation has taken place.

Parish Rosary will be 10:30 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., Friday, November 17, 2023, both at Church of the Holy Cross, 2631 Independence Rd., Hutchinson, with Fr. Jerome Spexarth officiating. 

Private family inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may sign his memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday thru Thursday at Elliott Mortuary. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society at Church of the Holy Cross or Church of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
