HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The 2023 Project Concern donations close on Monday at the Eagle Media Center in Hutchinson. Donations this year are behind last year's pace, and the need this year continues, along with the rise in prices, according to Maj. Paul James with the Salvation Army.

"We need, probably $20,000 just to do last year," James said. "We had to buy additional gift cards last year for that. Our goal is to make sure people are taken care of the best that we can. We encourage more giving, for sure."

Signups are outpacing last year, at this point.

"With both Thanksgiving and Christmas signups, we're almost to the 1000 kids that we had last year," James said Thursday. "We have until Dec. 5 for Christmas. Today is the last day for Thanksgiving sign up."

The last in person opportunity wraps up at noon Thursday, but you can still log on to https://saangeltree.org/ for Christmas purposes.

"You could be helping your neighbor," James said. "As the numbers go up, you likely are helping your neighbor. Last year, fortunately, our Christmas distribution is a little bit later than some of the other communities where the Salvation Army is at and they had some leftover toys, so we went to three other communities, just to even make that happen last year."

If you still want to donate to Project Concern, you can do so between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Thursday or Friday at the Eagle Media Studios at 825 North Main in Hutchinson.
