Salvation Army still well short of goal

Posted Jan 06, 2023 5:35 PM

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Red Kettles are gone, but families in need still live in Reno County.

The Salvation Army wants donors to know there’s still time to donate to support the people it helps every single day of the year.

“The Red Kettles at Christmas are certainly the time of year when we are most visible in Reno County,” said Major Paul James, corps commander. “However, the money we raise in December helps funds our operations for the entire upcoming year.”

While donations at Red Kettles exceeded the goal for Christmas 2022, other fundraising avenues lagged compared to previous years. Donations received through the mail in 2022 were down approximately 41% compared to the 2021 holiday season.

“The Salvation Army has served Reno County and Hutchison for 128 years ,” said Major James. “While this slight downturn in donations is disappointing, it does nothing to diminish our commitment to the community we call home. We will do everything we can for the families we serve with every resource entrusted to us.”

Donations can be made any time at https://salarmy.us/LoveBeyondHutchinson or in person at the corps community center at 700 N. Walnut Street in Hutchinson.
