
Leroy Earl Johnson, 91, died November 9, 2023, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, Buhler. He was born March 12, 1932, in Buffalo, OK, to Willard and Fern Doris (Ripple) Johnson.
Leroy served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. He owned the Conoco Full-Service Station, located at 7th and Main Street for many years. Not only was he the owner, but also the mechanic. After retirement, he worked as a cashier, stocker, and greeted people at Wal-Mart in Woodword, OK. Leroy will be remembered for his orneriness and his love of working on vehicles. He was of the Baptist faith.
On August 21, 1955, he married Vera Doreen Shuck, in Hugoton, KS. She died August 19, 1992, after they shared just a few days shy of their 37th wedding anniversary. On April 29, 1993, he married Mary (Crawford) Poindexter, in Canadian County, OK. She died July 11, 2019.
Leroy is survived by: his children: Denice Phipps, Debbie Hash, Darrel Johnson, and Lyndol Johnson (Lynette), all of Hutchinson; siblings, Robert Johnson, Mary Dean, Kenneth Johnson, Doris Fothergill, Paula Matkins; 26 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; sons, Lynn Johnson and Darin Johnson; and grandson, Shane Phipps.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Elliott Chapel. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with military honors presented by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary.
