Kan. man accused in murder of girlfriend makes court appearance

SEDGWICK COUNTY —A  Junction City man accused in the deadly drive-by killing of his girlfriend made his first court appearance Tuesday.

Dennis Alcox, 38, was charged with 1st degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

Just before 2a.m. Thursday, police responded to a shooting in the 8100 block of E Harry in Wichita, according to Police Lt. Aaron Moses.

First responders located 26-year old Audreanna Hidalgo of Wichita with a gunshot wound.  She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Officers with the Patrol East Community Response Team and Homicide Investigators immediately began investigating this case to understand what occurred. Throughout that investigation, police have come to believe that this was a case of Intimate Partner Violence.

Investigators were able to quickly identify a suspect. Police arrested  Alcox in Junction City. He remains jailed in Sedgwick County on a bond  one-point-five million dollars, according to the district attorney's office.

Alcox was on pre-trial supervision on a charge of Aggravated Battery at the time of the murder.  There is no documented history between this suspect and victim through the Wichita Police Department, according to Moses.  

This was the eighth criminal homicide in Wichita in 2024.
