HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Harlen Depew gave county commissioners an update this week on the pursuit of better prices for work on the Reno County Courthouse roof.
"Those bids were rejected that came in a month and a half ago," Depew said. "Those have been modified and are ready to go back out to bid again. Hopefully, we'll get some better bids this time around."
The specs were going to be on the agenda on Feb. 28, but it appeared that there was consensus to go ahead and seek bids even sooner than that, since it's clear the work is needed. The roof bid was originally estimated back in October to be between $110,000-$140,000, which is around $16-20 per square foot.
The lowest bid, that was rejected in the 2022 cycle was $500,419.02, approximately $50 per square foot. There were no local bids. The county has worked with GLMV Architecture to reprioritize the work to hopefully save money and ideally get a local contractor interested.
