SOUTH HUTCHINSON, Kan.— The South Hutchinson City Council voted unanimously to hire Jeff Schenk to be the next city administrator at Friday night’s special meeting.

Schenk brings more than 15 years of public sector experience to the role, having most recently served as the interim director of engineering for the City of Hutchinson.

Schenk managed over $25 million in capital improvement projects each year with the City of Hutchinson and has been intimately involved with the Woodie Seat bridge replacement project.

“He was our unanimous pick because he possesses a unique blend of skills, relevant infrastructure experience, and solid relationships within the region,” stated Mayor Brian Garretson. “His strengths align perfectly with our current needs, and we are confident that he will build on the successes we have enjoyed over the last couple of years.”

Schenk will take the helm of an organization with considerable financial strength thanks to the leadership of the governing body. Fund balances are at all-time highs, as is South Hutchinson's bond rating, which has been upgraded twice over the last year.

South Hutchinson is preparing to make significant investments in its infrastructure. This includes street improvements and wastewater plant upgrades to meet state mandated regulatory requirements.

“I am confident that I will be able to use my knowledge and skills to save tax dollars on these expensive projects,” said Schenk, who lives in South Hutchinson. “I am committed to this community, and I will ensure that our resources are deployed effectively and efficiently to maximize value.”

Schenk’s first day will be Monday, June 5th. He previously served as an appointed member of the South Hutchinson city council and resigned that position officially on Friday.
