HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Formal charges have been filed against the man suspected in a double homicide. Kyle Hardwick is charged with two counts of premeditated first degree murder and one count of theft. The murder charges carry a life sentence without parole for 50 years.

Hardwick made his first appearance Thursday morning after he was taken into custody by Maize Police on Wednesday. He’s being held on a bond of $2 million. Hardwick says he is working to get an attorney. He’ll be back in court for a status update Sept. 9. The case has been sealed by Judge Daniel Gilligan at this time. The names of the victims have still not been released.

Hardwick was listed as a person of interest after two bodies were discovered on a property in eastern Reno County on Friday.

Deputies were sent to that location for a check welfare call. While searching the property, deputies believed they found the missing person, so they got a warrant to search the entire property and found a second man dead.
