Brenda Kretzer-Kowitz, 69, of Hutchinson died September 13, 2025, at Hospice House. She was born on December 2, 1955, in Hutchinson, to Bobbie L. Kretzer and Barbara Lee (Bell) Carithers.

Brenda graduated from Nickerson High School in 1972; and attended Hutchinson Community College. In 1998, she graduated from Friends University with a Bachelor of Business Management. Brenda was the assistant manager of Credit Thrift, Hutchinson, before working at Barb’s Bail Bonds as a bail bond agent for over 30 years. She later became the Reno County Treasurer, working for the county for over 12 years, prior to her retirement in 2023. Brenda was a powered parachute sport pilot as well as a certified scuba diver. She enjoyed travelling, camping and waterskiing at Beaver Lake, AR, and Wilson Lake. Brenda was the world’s best storyteller; she was able to perfectly paint the picture and describe events in great detail. She loved spending time with her dogs and parrot. Brenda was a member of Inspire Church, Hutchinson.

Brenda is survived by: her brothers, Bobbie (Kerry) Kretzer of Grove, OK, Mark (Rhoda) Kretzer and Kathy (Jerry) Shank, both of Hutchinson; seven grandchildren; lifelong friend and caregiver, Phyllis Swank of Hutchinson; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; daughter, Jackie Rupp-Scott; sister, Bonnie Galloway; ex-husband and friend, Eric Kowitz.

Memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2025, at Inspire Church, 4290 N. Monroe, Hutchinson, with Pastor Kent Pedersen officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday until the day of the service, at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials  are suggested to Inspire Church or Hutchinson Animal Shelter, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
