HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Rise Up Reno Prevention Network is holding Putting for Prevention, a benefit golf tournament on June 9 at 9 a.m. at Crazy Horse Golf Course.
"It's really exciting," said John Young with Rise Up Reno. "It's something to help raise money. We're looking to expand a lot of our programs throughout the county and of course, that takes money."
The intent is to expand Rise Up Reno's youth leadership work even farther and keep up the mentoring they have done for years.
"We have kids from the high school that go and do mentoring in our schools," Young said. "We also have a lot of adults that do our mentoring, that go into our schools and do read with me programs, as well as do one on ones. We also have a youth leadership program that's over at the high school and Carissa Paxton runs that program for us and that teaches kids a lot of great leadership skills and they are involved in a lot of things around the county. We have that also in Buhler and in Haven school districts and we're expanding that to Nickerson next year."
If you'd like to play, the tournament is $400 a team for a four person scramble and includes breakfast and lunch.
"We like to partner with the schools," Young said. "Getting people there and doing background checks and all the stuff we do in our program, of course, takes funds. We have big goals to grow our program and really get the awareness out to a much broader part of Reno County."
Registration, coffee and donuts are at 8 a.m. that day, with the tournament start at 9 a.m. and lunch and prizes around 1:30 p.m.
