STERLING, Kan. — Sterling College student Copper Collins will present her junior music recital on Friday, March 27, at 7:00 p.m. at Sterling United Presbyterian Church. The 30-minute program is free and open to the public.
Collins, a junior Music Education major and vocal music performance minor from Pretty Prairie, will perform a selection of art songs as part of her degree studies under the direction of Sean Foster, Sterling College Choir Director and member of the music faculty.
Among the featured works is Johannes Brahms’ Liebestreu—Collins’ personal favorite. “I like how both the music and the story are very dramatic,” she said. “Liebestreu is a conversation between a mother and her child where the mother warns that the child's love is bound to fail. The child insists that their love will last and continues to believe in love.”
Another highlight of the program is Gabriel Fauré’s Après un rêve, which Collins describes as her most challenging piece. “The text has been difficult to memorize and pronounce correctly in French, and it sits higher in my range than other pieces,” she explained.
At Sterling College, Collins is a dedicated member of several music ensembles, including Choir, Highland Singers, Band, Jazz Band, and Musical Theatre productions.
The recital promises an engaging evening of beautiful vocal music showcasing the dedication and artistry of a talented young musician.
