UPDATE:
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Fire Department (HFD) responded to a locomotive fire near 8th Ave. and Keast St. on Feb. 23.

According to HFD, the lead engine’s motor caught fire.

Engineers on the locomotive were able to extinguish the fire before fire crews arrived.

Fire crews noticed engine oil running out of the locomotive.

The HFD Hazmat team arrived on scene and placed a catch basin under the leak so the oil would not contaminate the ground soil.

The rail company is working on moving the train cars, while the railway hazmat crew is on their way to offload the remaining oil from the locomotive.

“The Hutchinson Fire department would like to thank the following agencies for their support in this incident, Reno Co Emergency Communication, Hutchinson Police Department, Reno County Emergency management,” HFD said in a release about the incident.
