HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Fire Department will have to delay its burning plan for wildfire mitigation to the north and east of the city as wind speeds will be too strong on Friday.
Burning operations that will begin when the wind dies down and end later in the month will include burning along Plum from 69th to 108th, 82nd from Plum to Monroe, 69th along Sandhills State Park, 30th from Obee to Kent, Buhler Road from 4th to 17th, 4th west of Willison and Willison from 4th to 17th.
The county or city right of way will be burned from the road to the fence lines. Units from Hutchinson Fire, Reno County Sheriff, Reno County Emergency Management, Reno County and Hutchinson City Public Works and the Kansas Forest Service will all be working together at times to accomplish the burning during safe weather conditions. Officers may shut down any of the roads involved at the time of the burns to keep vehicles and workers safe.
When 30th is being burned, burn operations will be completed by 3 p.m. on those days to make sure school traffic can get through.
The burns will comply with county burning regulations, with a late morning to early afternoon start and there will be no burning after dark.
Hutchinson Fire will provide updates on their Facebook page and on Twitter each day to let the public know where they are burning, as locations will depend on wind speed and direction.
