HUTCHINSON, Kan. — In a press release Friday, Jon Robinson announced the conclusion of Smallville Con. The release is transcribed below.
Over the last eleven years, the Robinson family has diligently worked to provide a quality, light-hearted event that was both fun and affordable for the entire family to share in our fascination and love of pop culture entertainment. Following the conclusion of our 10th Anniversary Celebration, we acknowledge the increasing impact to our families coupled with rising operational costs are no longer supportive of a quality show.
Therefore, it is with a heavy heart, we announce the conclusion of operations for Smallville Con: Hutchinson's Very Own Pop Culture and Comic Book Celebration.
First and foremost, we wish to express our sincere appreciation to the dedicated fans who believed in our dream, provided inspiration, and stoked the excitement of every event. We also are truly indebted to our extended family and loyal volunteers, who year after year sacrifice themselves to ensure the success of Smallville Con. To our vendors, creators, writers and artists, we know there were other events and other schedules and we will always be thankful you chose to celebrate with us at Smallville. We are also grateful to our sponsors, both large and small, assisting us with each event-especially Eagle Communications-who believed in us from inception. Last but not least, we appreciate our celebrity guests, especially those during the first several years, who elected to take a chance and spend a weekend in a small town with devoted fans.
We could never have done it without your individual and collective contributions. Each and every one of you will always remain in our hearts as part of our Smallville Family. This has been an extremely difficult choice, but like the television series which inspired us, sadly our adventure too, now comes to an end after ten seasons.
From our family to yours, we humbly thank you for the adventure of a lifetime!
