
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team pulled away from Northwest Tech 73-63 on Saturday afternoon at the Sports Arena.
Freshman Monae Duffy had a monster day with 25 points and 20 rebounds for Hutchinson (21-7, 15-7 KJCCC). The double-double is her eighth of the season, and the 20 rebounds tie for third-most single-game rebounds in program history.
The Blue Dragons were able to take a 36-27 lead into halftime after the game was tied at 13 following the first quarter.
Northwest Tech (10-16, 6-15) outscored Hutchinson 22-15 in the third quarter to pull the Mavericks within 51-49 entering the final frame.
Hutchinson was able to grow its lead back to double digits midway through the quarter. The Blue Dragons connected on 7-of-12 shots from the field in the final 10 minutes, as well as 7-of-12 from the free-throw line to outscore NW Tech 22-14.
Mya Williams finished the game with 18 points for HutchCC, 11 of which came in the fourth quarter. NW Tech was led by Elisa Sanchez's 19 points, one of three Mavericks in double figures.
The Blue Dragons will travel to Liberal on Wednesday to play the Seward County Saints. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. from the Green House.
