
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Mya Williams became just the sixth Blue Dragon in program history to score 1,000 points as Hutchinson avenged its first loss of the season.
The Dragons started the season 7-0 before the Thunderbirds beat them in Concordia 75-65 in November.
Williams' free throw with 3:28 left in the third quarter was part of a 15-4 run that put Hutchinson up 54-38.
Williams is on pace to break the per-game scoring average by two points (currently averaging 18.5 per contest).
Williams joins Kalani Purcell (1,176), Jamie Patrick (1,098), Heather Robben (1,072), Cian Carvalho (1,034) and Tor'e Alford (1,032) as the only players in program history to score 1,000 points or more.
Williams finished with 23 points and six rebounds on 5 of 14 shooting. She hit 11 of 12 free throws.
Journey Armstead (17) and Kali Howard (13) also scored in double digits.
Point guard Morgan Browning finished with nine points and four steals.
Armstead added seven boards and four assists to her statline.
The Thunderbirds (12-8, 7-7) got 15 points from Sarah Lawless. She finished the game 7 of 10 from the floor, 1 of 3 from distance.
The Dragons (16-4, 10-4) scored 23 points off turnovers.
