HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College Fine Arts Department's Holiday Hoopla concert is on Nov. 16 at Stringer Fine Arts Center at 7 p.m. It will feature a symphonic band and instrumental jazz performance.
Music Instructor and Jazz Program Coordinator Greg Weis said a combo group and band will play for the jazz portion of the concert. The combo group is a rhythmic section with a few horn players. A vocalist will join the combo and then the big band will play a jazz set with a few Christmas tunes. One of those tunes is an arrangement of Donnie Hathaway's This Christmas that Weis arranged for the band.
"It's going to be a world premiere of that arrangement and then we are going to play kind of a jazz band of an arrangement of the Nutcracker Suite," Weis said.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $5 for students. Hutch CC students and employees get in free with their ID.
"If you bring in canned food, the tickets end up being half price," Weis said.
Canned food donations will be taken to the Reno County Food Bank. More information is available at hutchcc.edu/finearts.
