Donnie Lee (Don) McCaskill, 70 of Mount Hope, Kansas passed away on June 7, 2024, at the Hospice House in Hutchinson, Kansas surrounded by his family. He was born March 8th, 1954, in Hutchinson, Kansas to J.B. and Alice (Meyer) McCaskill. He graduated from Burrton High School in 1972 and from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center in 1996.
On December 12, 1981, he married the love of his life, Patti (Abbey) in Mount Hope, Kansas. He dedicated almost 43 years to loving her. Don worked in Law Enforcement as a police officer for both the Mount Hope and Colwich Police Departments before becoming the Mount Hope Police Chief until he retired in 2012. Don was also a member of the Mount Hope Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Don was very involved in the city; he was currently serving on the Mount Hope EMS and Larsen Community Center Association boards and previously served as the president of the City Council. The last few months, he fought a courageous battle against esophageal cancer.
Don loved his family with all his heart. He is survived by his wife, daughters Nicole DeLuna (Luis), Lindsey Younkin (Bobby), grandsons Garrett McCaskill and Dominic DeLuna and granddaughter Avery Younkin, his sisters Nelda Dow and Nona Perriman (Bob), brothers Larry McCaskill (Cindy) and Dwayne McCaskill (Lori) and a host nieces and nephews. Other survivors are his brothers-in-law Tim Abbey (Cindy) and Kim Cooley and sister-in-law Pam Stubby. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Loretta Lewis and Barbara McCaskill Harper, brother Jay B., Jr., Brother-in-law Merwin Lewis and sisters-in-law Marilyn McCaskill and Sheryl Cooley.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Knights of Columbus located at 318 E. Rush Avenue in Andale, Kansas; lunch to follow.
