Sheila Louise (Moyer) Ratzlaff |1958-2023|

Sheila Louise (Moyer) Ratzlaff, 65, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Ascension Via Christi-St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita, KS.

Sheila was born on January 12, 1958, in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Donald Eugene Moyer and Mary Louise (Ballweg) Moyer.  She graduated from McPherson High School in May of 1976.

She was married to Joel Jay Ratzlaff on April 1, 1977, at the Church of the Nazarene in McPherson. 

In 1995, Sheila was baptized while living in Spirit Lake, Idaho and attending Spirit Lake Baptist Church along with the rest of her family, husband Joel, and children, Bryce Ratzlaff and Nanci (Heath) Ratzlaff.

Sheila was a Certified Nurses Aid and also Certified Medical Aid.  She worked in Hillsboro, Newton, and Goessel, KS.  She also had successful house cleaning businesses in McPherson and Gypsum, KS.

She attended the Wheatland Baptist Church in McPherson.

Sheila loved gardening and inherited her green thumb from her father and enjoyed many hours of gardening. 

From 2015 onward, she was a caregiving to her brother, father, and mother before their passing.  She felt it was her calling in life to care for her family. Her family recalls the many amazing meals she had fixed over the years, including meatloaf and her Jell-O fluff.  While her children were growing, the family moved around frequently.  No matter where they were, Sheila always was able to make that place a home.

Her carpenter father built her a “staircase to Heaven” on her 46th wedding anniversary, April 1, 2023.

Survivors include: her loving husband of 46 years, Joel of the home; a son, Bryce Ratzlaff (Katie) of Halstead, KS; a daughter, Nanci Heath (Brian) of Goessel, KS; five grandchildren; Derek, Kelli, Braxton, Breckyn, & Maddox; and many extended family and friends.  She loved her kitty kids (two cats) of the home.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Mark Moyer.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday, April 7, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Empire Cemetery, Galva.

Memorial donations may be given to Caring Hands Humane Society (Newton, KS) in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
