HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Eligible Republican committee members from the new Reno County Commission District 4 voted Thursday evening to elect John Whitesel to the seat being vacated by Mark Reese.

According to Republican Party Chair Ryan Patton, Whitesel received nine of the 17 eligible votes with Ron Pauls receiving eight votes.

Whitesel joins Don Bogner as the members from the newly created commission districts. Randy Parks is the replacement in District 1 for Ron Sellers.

All five commission members are Republicans. The new members of the commission are scheduled to be sworn in Monday, Jan. 9 at 10 a.m.

Patton clarified that Whitesel's name will be sent to the Governor's office for her official appointment on Friday, but with the run up to the legislative session, it's not clear if the official appointment paperwork will be complete by Monday morning.
