Sheriff: Violent KC area lake robbery suspect is in custody

KANSAS CITY — On Saturday afternoon, the Clay County Sheriff reported that with the assistance of the Blue Springs Police Department, 21-year-old Matthew Williams had been located and is in custody.  The sheriff's department released no additional details.

KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement  attempting to locate 21-year-old Matthew R. Williams, who is charged with first-degree robbery for an incident that took place at Smithville Lake late July 17 into the early morning hours of July 18, according to a media release from the Clay County Sheriff.

Williams was one of several suspects in an incident in which the victim was held against his will, pistol whipped and stripped of his belongings. 

Matthew Williams is 6’7 and weighs about 220 pounds.He has ties to Lee’s Summit, Blue Springs and Raytown. Anyone who knows where he is should call 911 or the Clay County Sheriff’s Office at 816-407-3700.

The other suspects in the robbery are in custody and have been charged: 18-year-old Haeli Smith, 21-year-old Georgio M. Sparks and 18-year-old Mason X. Card
