HCF inmate dies

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — An inmate at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility has died.

The Kansas Department of Corrections says Charles A. Beck Jr. died Friday after being transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased by hospital staff. The cause of death is pending an autopsy, but is not believed to be COVID-19 related.

Per protocol, when a resident dies in the custody of KDOC, the death is under investigation by KDOC and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI).

Beck, who was 48 years old, was serving a hard 25 sentence plus 165 months for convictions in Sedgwick and Russell counties on first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, violation of a protective order, battery on a correctional officer/employee, and drug possession.
