
Otto ‘Sonny’ Kahler, Jr., 96, passed away peacefully December 5, 2023, at his home in Wichita, KS, with family by his side. He was born January 5, 1927, in Redwing, KS, the son of Otto William Kahler and Lucy Rosie Mae (Crane) Kahler.
Otto was a longtime resident of Hutchinson, KS, a World War II Navy veteran, and retired from Krause Plow Corporation after more than 35 years. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and Forest Park Presbyterian Church for many years, where he served in a multitude of roles as needs arose. Later in life, he attended Evangel Presbyterian Church in Goddard, KS.
Otto was an avid golfer, card player, billiards (pool and snooker) player, a Mason for more than 70 years, and a member of the American Legion for more than 50 years. Otto also volunteered for the Sky Ryders Drum and Bugle Corps for many years.
On November 6, 1949, he married Lorene Helen Radke, and they were blessed with four sons. Lorene preceded him in death and passed on January 20, 2003. He later remarried Wilma A. Aupperle, on April 25, 2004, who subsequently passed on April 26, 2016.
In addition to wives, Lorene and Wilma, he was preceded in death by: his parents; sons, Steven R. and Roger K.; daughter-in-law, Marsha E.; and grandson, Justin A.
He is survived by: his sons, Jeffery Scott (Lori) of Springfield, MO, and Paul William (Diane) of Houston, TX,; step-daughter, Sharree; daughter-in-law, Charisse; step-daughter, Sharree Selichnow (Doug) 9 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren
Memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Reflection Ridge Retirement Community, 2300 N. Tyler Road, Wichita, KS, with Pastor Tim Rackley presiding. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, and at Reflection Ridge Retirement Community the day of the service. Cremation has taken place.
