Ken Goering, 85, of Galva, Kansas passed away on April 11, 2024 at Pine Village in Moundridge, Kansas. Ken is best known as a community banker and was CEO of The Citizens State Bank and Home State Bank and Trust until his retirement in 2018 ending a 50-year career in banking. Ken loved to help people realize their dreams and aspirations and took great joy in seeing his customers, co-workers and communities succeed. Ken also enjoyed working with his older brothers Marvin, Duane, Melvern and Virgil on a variety of agricultural and other endeavors. Ken also had a special relationship with his big sister Margaret (Schrag) with whom he shared a birthday. Ken was actively engaged in a number of communities including Moundridge, Goessel, Hesston, Canton, McPherson and Newton assisting hospitals, retirement homes, libraries, churches and other charitable endeavors.
Ken was the youngest son and last surviving child of Joe J Goering and Emma (Schrag). After graduating from McPherson College with a business degree in 1962, Ken lived in rural Galva, Kansas with his wife Paula (Ratzlaff) on the same farm for 60 years. Ken enjoyed rural living and could often be found tending fruit trees and mowing grass. Ken has two sons, two daughters in law and four grandchildren. Eric and wife Ann (Ridge) and children Jack and Megan of Valley Center, Kansas; Theron and Jennifer (Angeletti) and children Elle and Ivy also of Valley Center. When not tending to his farm, Ken and Paula enjoyed travelling to many destinations near and far.
