HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Over 70 firefighters from Harvey, Marion, McPherson, Reno, Rice, and Sedgwick counties gathered Saturday at a Wildland Fire Training for Division Supervisors, hosted by the Kansas Forest Service, in conjunction with the Hutchinson Fire Department.

Rodney Redinger with the Forest Service taught the course.

The purpose of the training was to learn how to better manage resources while out on large incidents.

This training will help prepare regional firefighters for the impending wildland fire season.

The first week of March marks one year since the Cottonwood Complex Fire near Hutchinson burned 12,000 acres, killed one man and destroyed 35 homes, 92 outbuildings and 110 vehicles.
