Melvin ‘Mel’ Eugene Gough |1927-2023|

Melvin ‘Mel’ Eugene Gough, 95, passed away March 25, 2023, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.  He was born November 7, 1927, in Erie, KS, to Arthur Festus Gough and Opal Jane (Killian) Gough.

Mel served in the United States Air Force from December 1945 to December 1948.  He was a lifelong truck driver.  Mel drove for Eaton Metal Products, currently J&J Drainage, and then retired from Dillon Stores Inc.  He was a member of the Teamsters Union, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68, and the South Hutchinson United Methodist Church.

On April 5, 1952, Mel married Geraldine ‘Gerry’ Faye Breidenstein, in Arlington, KS.  They shared almost 71 years of marriage.

He is survived by:  his wife, Geraldine Gough of Hutchinson, KS; sons, Rodney (Patty) Gough of Wichita, KS, and Randy Gough of Winfield, KS; grandchildren, Billy Douglas, Rachel (Loren) Keeton, Ashley Barton, and Corey Gough; eight great-grandchildren; and siblings, Buford (Patsy) Gough of Cisco, TX, Neva (Dale) Martin of Ulysses, KS, and Gary (Linda) Gough of Abbyville, KS.

Mel was preceded in death by:  his parents; daughter, Rene Faye Short; and brothers, Harold Gough and Kenneth Gough.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, March 31, 2023, at Elliott Mortuary, with the Reverend Mike Rose officiating.  Burial will follow in the Abbyville Cemetery, Abbyville, KS.  Military honors will be conducted by the McConnell Air Force Base Honor Guard.  Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2023, with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.  The funeral service can be viewed on the Elliott Mortuary website on the day of the service beginning at 12:45 p.m.
