Doug Schmidt, 71, died April 8, 2023 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, KS surrounded by his family. He was born on March 16, 1952. Doug graduated from Newton High School, and worked as a Corrections Officer for 33 years at HCF. On July 21, 1972 he married Susan Hendry in Newton, KS. She survives.
Other survivors include his daughter, Shauna Burdick and fiancé Clint Woodson; daughter-n-law, Jamie Schmidt; grandchildren, Vance Burdick, Jordan (Deanie) Kuhns, Raviyn, Kloe, Alivia, Erik, Kyra, Kaden, Jameson, Sorell, Hailey, Gabe, and Stephen; sister, Sandy (Bob) Fraser; niece, Sheri Fraser; brother-n-law, Randy (Nikie) Hendry; daughter by heart, Hazel (Roy) Brott; grandson by heart, Nick (Shelby) Heim, and many extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher D. Schmidt; son-in-law, Jeremy Burdick; nephew, Rusty Fraser; parents, John K. and Marion Schmidt; father and mother-n-law, D.V. and Bev Hendry.
A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2023 at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson, with Pastor John Chastain presiding. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. until service time, Monday, April 17th. Burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Ripples from the Well Orphanage, and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
