HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County is looking at a different way of having legal counsel. After meeting in executive session on Tuesday, the Reno County Commission approved hiring Barton County Counselor Patrick Hoffman to serve in a part-time role. Hoffman currently serves a similar role for Barton County, a position he’s held since 2019.
Hoffman's duties will include providing legal advice to both commissions. Last week, the Barton County Commission moved its weekly meetings from Tuesdays to Wednesdays so that Hoffman would be able to attend future Reno County Commission meetings on Tuesdays. Hoffman replaces Joe O'Sullivan, who retired as the Reno County Counselor at the end of the year.
In order to serve in the dual role, Hoffman said that he will be cutting back his private practice. Hoffman is a member of the law firm Sherman, Hoffman and Hoffman in Ellsworth.
