HUTCHINSON — A growing community-wide effort to improve health and quality of life in Reno County is encouraging residents to take an active role in shaping solutions.

The Reno County Community Wellness Coalition is expanding its outreach with a new campaign inviting community members to participate in its work, emphasizing that “there’s a place for you here.” The coalition is made up of local residents, healthcare providers, schools, nonprofits and other organizations working together to address key health challenges across the county.

Organizers say the initiative reflects a renewed push to build on past wellness efforts, including earlier programs like Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL), by creating a broader and more inclusive coalition.

To address those needs, several work groups have been established, allowing residents to get involved based on their interests. These include efforts focused on mental health, food access, youth wellness, active living and recovery support.

Among those initiatives, the Food Advisory Council is working to reduce food insecurity and improve coordination with local resources like the Reno County Food Bank. The School Health and Wellness Alliance focuses on supporting students and families, while the Mental Health Task Force brings together law enforcement, healthcare providers and nonprofits to improve access to services and reduce stigma.

The Reno Recovery Collaborative is also working to expand recovery resources and ensure individuals with lived experience help guide local strategies.

Coalition leaders say community participation is essential to the effort’s success. A recent outreach campaign encourages residents to scan a QR code to learn more about joining a work group or contributing ideas.

“Your voice, your ideas and your experiences matter,” organizers emphasized.
