Terrill “Terry” Wayne Underwood  |1952-2022|

Terrill “Terry” Wayne Underwood, 70 of Medicine Lodge, was taken from this world on September 14, 2022.

He was born on August 30, 1952, in Winfield, to Charles and Alice (Jackson) Underwood.

Terry grew up in Anthony, where he played football, was on the wrestling team, and during the summers he worked the wheat fields.

In 1969 the family moved to Dodge City, where he played his senior year of football at Dodge City Senior High. He continued to play football at Dodge City Community College. During this time, he worked at KP&L, was part of the Boot Hill Variety Show and rodeoed.

After attending Washburn University, he moved to Wichita, KS and worked for Citgo. Later, he transferred to Medicine Lodge, KS. Terry continued to work in the natural gas industry for 37 years before retiring. In his retirement he enjoyed taking his 5th wheel to the lake and fishing.

Terry enjoyed mentoring kids and helping them with their show animals. He was an avid jokester and a dear friend to many.

He is survived by his partner of 16 years Debbie Randle of Medicine Lodge; daughter, Kialee Bender of Verdigris, OK; son, Terrance (Helen) Underwood of Oceanside, CA; daughter, Victoria Walz of Verdigris, OK; Ten grandchildren, Kyle Hickmon, Aliano Terrell Underwood, Aliyus Underwood, Jaylynn Underwood, Augustine Lopez, Emily Lopez, Chance Bender, Kaydence Bender, Mayzee Bender, and Kennedy Walz; One great grandchild, Kashtyn Bender; four siblings, Vicki Underwood of Wichita, KS, Ernest (Mikki) Underwood of Park City, KS, Howard Underwood of Wichita, KS, and Nikki Underwood (Donald) Pearson of Wichita, KS, several nieces and nephews and extended family.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Charlene Underwood.


Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Medicine Lodge. Inurnment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, Anthony, KS.
