HUTCHINSON, Kan. — County Commissioner Don Bogner asked Tuesday where the regulation writing process is for commercial solar regulations in the county.
"A former commission had asked for planning and zoning to start working on some quite a while ago," Bogner said. "I'm just wondering where they are at on the project or if it's something that's been given up on before I got here."
County Administrator Randy Partington told the board that they've been trying to find time to get a proposal to planning. Bogner said they had heard concerns on the trip to Manhattan to visit the Kansas Department of Agriculture about making sure there was something in place.
"You need to be getting your ducks in order, checking," KDA staff told Bogner. "They're seeing some things that they don't like, happening in other counties. With that in mind, that was my thought, start checking into it and see where we are at."
Public Works Director Don Brittain said they are going to have something soon.
"What staff does, which is [Planner Mark Vonachen] and I, is we create this boilerplate to hand them to like, dislike, create from. That's what we're working on. I think that we were required to try to have that before the planning and zoning commission in March."
It remains to be seen how long it will take planning and zoning to edit whatever Vonachen and Brittain provide.
