NEWTON, Kan. — The Newton City Commission presented the 2024 Yard of the Year award to Mike and Eydie Fellows at 805 Grandview. Out of 11 nominated yards, the Fellowses’ property ranked especially high in water conservation and curb appeal.
The Fellowses purchased the house in 2006 and slowly fixed it up themselves. They see new things in other yards and try them in their own space, learning what works best for them along the way. The couple tries to consider water conservation, so Mike installed a drip irrigation system. They also like watching birds, so their yard has multiple bird baths. The couple say they hope their efforts for property beautification are contagious to others. They love experimenting and changing it up every so often and say it’s “a work in progress.”
