Community Foundation Scholarship deadlines soon

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Qualifying high school seniors are encouraged to apply for scholarships administered annually at Hutchinson Community Foundation.

The deadline to apply for the Denny Hart Family Athletic Scholarship, the Lois and Avory Johnson Scholarship for Reno County Students, the Hutchinson News Future Journalist Scholarship and the Myrtle F. & M. Eugene Hobson Memorial Fund for Nursing Education is noon March 24.

Denny Hart Family Athletic Scholarship

The Denny Hart Family Athletic Scholarship is open to any Reno County graduating senior. This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded for the fall semester of the recipient’s freshman year at any accredited college or university. The award was established by the family of Denny Hart in honor of his commitment to a “behind the scenes” approach to helping young people.

The ideal applicant is involved in athletics, demonstrates a clear commitment to community through involvement in activities outside the classroom, demonstrates financial need and has a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Deadline to apply for the 2023 scholarship is noon March 24.

Hutchinson News Future Journalist Scholarship

The Hutchinson News Future Journalist Scholarship is open to high school seniors graduating from a school in The Hutchinson News coverage area. Candidates must be enrolled, or plan to enroll, in a journalism, photojournalism or communications program at an accredited college or university. Preference given to journalism students. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average and submit materials listed in the guidelines.

Two scholarships will be awarded: A $2,000 winner, and a $1,000 runner-up.

Deadline to apply for the 2023 scholarship is noon March 24.

The 2022 recipients were:

  1. Riley Richter, Sterling High School, $2,000
  2. Kaden Warner, Buhler High School, $2,000

Lois and Avory Johnson Scholarship for Reno County Students

The Lois and Avory Johnson Scholarship for Reno County Students is open to seniors who are graduating from a Reno County high school and will be attending any certified institution of higher learning, including trade and vocational schools, beginning in the fall of 2023. Applicants should display academic ability and/or personal motivation to achieve goals, involvement in school, church or community activities or have been employed while still achieving academic success. Students pursuing any career may apply, but students entering the filed of Emergency Medical Services will be given preference.

Three scholarships are awarded annually. Each award is $2,000 ($1,000 per year for two years).

Deadline to apply for the 2023 scholarship is noon March 24.

  2. Dylan Huggard, Nickerson High School
  3. Sadye Patterson, Hutchinson High School

Myrtle F. and M. Eugene Hobson Memorial Fund for Nursing Education

The Myrtle F. & M. Eugene Hobson Memorial Fund for Nursing Education awards a $1,000 annual scholarship to one student graduating from Fairfield High School, Kingman High School or St. John High School and is enrolling in a nursing or health care related program. The successful applicant should also demonstrate a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA and a strong work ethic and drive to reach personal goals.

Deadline to apply for the 2023 scholarship is noon March 24.
