
Ila Maurine Ventsam, 98, of Haven, Kansas, passed away Monday, November 13, 2023, in Hutchinson, Kansas. She was born May 4, 1925 in Wellington, Kansas, the daughter of Walter L. and Anna M. (Crewse) Burden.
She graduated from Belle Plaine High School with the class of 1943.
Ila retired from the Haven Post Office as postmaster in 1989.
She married Marvin “Barney” Ventsam from Haven, Kansas. They were married for 24 years and later divorced.
Ila was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haven, where she served on the altar guild, funeral committee, and was secretary to the LWML Bowling League. She also volunteered at the Haven Food Bank and was a Girl Scout Leader.
She is survived by her four children, Eddie Ventsam of Costa Rica, Jeanette (Ed) Ladd of Hutchinson, Diane (Mike) Krone of Kanopolis Lake, and Dena (Jim) Kirkman of Mt. Hope; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Ila was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Gloria Jean; two brothers, Mervin and Marion; and five sisters, Vera, Viola, Cleora, Melba, and Beulah.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 16, 2023 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Haven. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, November 15, at Ott Funeral Home, the family will not be present. Graveside services will take place at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, at Austin Cemetery, Anson, KS.
