Jobless rate falls in Reno County

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The unemployment rate for Reno County fell to just 2.3% in December as the Christmas shopping season drove residents to part-time jobs. It’s a half of a percentage point below November's numbers. The December jobless rate in 2020 was 4.3%.

While those numbers fell, the number of people in the available workforce also declined by 181 workers and the number of residents employed fell by 16 to 28,985.

The number of people looking for work fell from 836 in November to just 671 in December. The December unemployment rate for the state fell three tenths of one percent to 3.3%.
