William Arthur Jones III ‘Trey’, passed away July 7, 2022, in Louisville, KY. He was born September 5, 1979, in McPherson, to William Arthur Jones, Jr. and Mary Alice (Hoss) Jones.
Trey was a 1998 graduate of Nickerson High School, Nickerson. He graduated from Southwestern College, Winfield, KS, in 2003 with a bachelors degree in Business. Trey currently holds the high jump record at Nickerson High School and at Southwestern College where he was named a ‘Track and Field All-American’. He went to work at Anheuser Busch Strother Field, Winfield, and was the warehouse manager for ten years. Trey earned a Masters Degree of Education from Southwestern College and was employed for five years as a Social Studies teacher at Ark City Middle School, Arkansas City. After leaving Arkansas City, he became the shop instructor and the head track and field coach at Nickerson High School for the past six years. Trey was responsible for the design and the layout of the new track facility at Nickerson High School which was completed in 2022.
He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially ice fishing. Trey’s true passion involved woodworking and coaching track and field. He was always trying to give his students the opportunity and the avenue to be involved in the woodworking shop classes or to become a member of the track and field team. Trey was a friend to everyone. If anyone needed help, he could be counted on to be one of the first persons to show up to provide assistance and guidance to complete a task or project. He liked to travel, especially when it involved traveling to support his kids’ activities. Trey had many titles in his brief lifetime, but the ones he cherished the most were husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend, teacher, and coach. He was an All-American athlete and an even better ‘all round good friend’.
On December 16, 2000, Trey married Amy E. Honeck, in Winfield. They shared over twenty-one years of marriage.
He is survived by: his wife, Amy Jones of Nickerson; children, Hunter Jones, Ava Jones, and Creek Jones, all of the home; father, Bill Jones and Celeste Coonrod of Little River; mother, Mary Alice Hoss Jones of Sterling, KS; sister, Desiree (Brian) Newell of Ellsworth; grandparents, Bill and Phyllis Jones, Sr. of Hutchinson; and nieces, Madison, Brooklyn, and Reese Newell.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Dorothy Hoss.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2022, at First Church of the Nazarene, 4290 N. Monroe, KS, with Pastor Kent Pedersen officiating. The memorial service can be viewed by going to the church’s website (www.hutchfirstnaz.org) on the day of the service. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
