Haven to seek out incentives for new housing development

Posted Aug 17, 2021 8:41 PM

HAVEN, Kan. — The Haven City Council got an update on a new housing development located on the west side of the city during Monday's agenda session.

The city would like to establish a rural housing incentive district to help with paying for the infrastructure for the Wildcat landing development. The motion to adopt such a resolution was approved. The city also wants to apply for a moderate income housing grant to help spur the development, which could provide space for as many as 15 new homes. The city can apply for the grant for each of the three phases of the development located just behind the USD 312 administrative offices.

The council also went into executive session to discuss the ongoing legal matters involving the city pool, but no action was taken. The city wanted it to be known that there have been complaints about grass and weeds growing in the curbs and gutters around the residential areas. The curbs and gutters are the responsibility of the property owners to keep clean and free of debris.

And another matter the city wanted to pass along was an amendment to the city’s trash and recycling ordinance. Under the amendment, which was approved by the council, trash and recycling receptacles must be placed at the curb no sooner than 5 p.m. the day before collection and no later than 7 a.m. the day of collection. The carts must be removed from the collection point to their normal storage location at a point behind the front building line within 24 hours after collection.
