Lou "Kay" Johnson, 74, of Wichita passed away Saturday, August 14. 2022 at Ascension Via Christi Ridge, Wichita, where she was monitored by her niece Jenifer Carriker and attended by Traditions Hospice.

Kay was born September 16,1947 the oldest of eight children born to parents James and Ravie McMahan. Kay attended school in Wichita and Maize and graduated from Maize High school in 1965.

Kay married her husband Clifford Johnson on January 5, 1965. They fostered over 30 children and adopted 4 siblings ages 5 through 17. Kay worked many jobs throughout the years from teaching preschool to taking care of the elderly. Before moving to the nursing home she lived 5 years in the Tampa, area where she was cared for by her sister Connie McMahan and Blue Stem Pace of McPherson. She was an avid reader and collected angel figurines. She also had a memorable smile. 

Kay was preceded in death by her husband Clifford Johnson, father James McMahan, mother Ravie McMahan, brothers Melvin McMahan and Bailey McMahan.

Kay is survived by her children Rose Robbins (H.L.), Connie Johnson Muniz, Pam Burchfiel (Mark), and Roy Johnson (Kimberley), siblings Connie McMahan, Zelda Saranko (John), Velda Conard, Jay McMahan (Kathy) and Oma Detwiler (Don), 10 grandchildren: Logan, Kendra, Landon, Shandra, James, Jonathan, Eric, Elon, Keyalna and Josh, 6 great grandchildren: Sophea, Ivie, Remy, Stella and Cayden, numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Emporia Avenue Church of Christ located at 1144 S. Emporia, Wichita.
