HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Fire Department held their quarterly officer training with Dave Anderson this past week. Chief Steve Beer told Hutch Post the value of that training is large for his department.
"You can have nice equipment, you can have the fire stations, all this type of stuff, but I truly believe our number one asset is our people," Beer said. "I think a lot of businesses, public entities, forget about the people. You have to understand that, truly understand what that means for an organization. When you invest in your people, the sky's the limit, where we can go as an organization."
Beer is hoping that they can bring Anderson back again, that's how impressed he was with what they heard.
"He was a West Point graduate," Beer said. "He had no background in the fire department, but his leadership message was spot on. We'll continue to work on that. It gives my men and women an opportunity to learn and grow. We are a young department. The more skills and abilities that I can give them this way, the better job they are going to do out in the field."
Command staff at the fire department will continue the training through materials provided over the next six months. For more about Anderson's program, go to becomingaleaderofcharacter.com.
