Hutchinson continues to deal with water main breaks

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Public Works had to deal with two more water main breaks over the weekend.

One lane of East 4th Avenue, east of North Plum Street is closed after a water main break that occurred early Saturday morning in Hutchinson. The break was called in around 2:30 a.m. at the northeast corner of East 4th and Plum. The break was on a 6-inch water line that records show was installed in 1889 and left 35 customers without service. Public Works Water Maintenance staff worked in the morning hours in temperatures in the mid-20s. The water was turned back on at approximately 9 a.m.

One eastbound lane of East 4th is closed until repairs to the street can be made.

The second water line break was reported at East 14th Avenue and Huxman Street at approximately 3:15 a.m. This break was on a 6-inch water line installed in 1962 and left 31 customers without water until approximately 7:30 a.m. No traffic interruptions are expected.

City crews had to work a water main break at East 5th and Hoagland on Friday morning. That break left about 35 city residents without service for most of the day.
