HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Avenue A Splash Pad will be closed today, Monday, July 1, as part of the City of Hutchinson's efforts to conserve water.

Here’s why:

Fairgrounds and Rice Park Splash Pads: These splash pads recycle chlorinated water through water pit systems, using minimal water primarily lost to evaporation.

Avenue A Splash Pad: Uses city water and then releases it into Cow Creek. To conserve our water resources, we need to close this splash pad for the day.

Thank you for your understanding and support in the city's efforts to conserve water.

This is part of a larger conservation effort, as the replacement of a critical water line under Severance Street between 17th Avenue and 23rd Avenue is going on. The repair is expected to be completed late Monday afternoon. A new line is being put into service requiring the shutdown of a major water line. During the repair period the Water Treatment Center will only be able to operate at 25% production capacity.

Once the water line construction is completed on Monday, focus will turn to repair of Severance Street – street repair should be completed by the end of July, depending on weather.
