HUTCHINSON, Kan. — There are two new classes of race coming to Salt City Racing Friday night at the Kansas State Fairgrounds half-mile oval.
"We are bringing the late models in this week," said Phil Nightingale with Salt City Racing. "It's a new change, instead of having the sprint cars, we're going to have the late models, which is a bigger car, bigger tires and stuff. It should be some better speeds for those guys and then we're bringing in the super stocks and that's a group of gentlemen that have been waiting and waiting to get on the schedule. It's fun and exciting to bring those guys together and put the super stocks out on the racetrack and see how much fun those guys can have."
Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for kids and $32 for pit passes.
"The super stocks are excited to come," Nightingale said. "They've been begging to get on the schedule and I wanted to get a few races under my belt before we brought them on. The late models, though it doesn't take a lot of change for them to with their cars to change it from a 3/8 to half mile track either, but I talked a lot of late models. We were in Dodge City racing with them last Friday and Saturday, and they were all excited and pumped to come so we should have a good car count on both classes for sure."
Attendance was down a little last month.
"I think a lot of that was the holiday weekend," Nightingale said. "I think other people some people had some other plans and stuff like that, so I'm hoping that this Friday the crowds is bigger than the first night is what I'm hoping for, and the excitement level I see out there I think it will be. Let's get excited. Let's fill those stands and let's show this fair board that this is the right thing to do to keep this racetrack."
Pits open at 3 p.m., gates open at 5 p.m., Hot Laps are at 6:15 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m. Friday.
