
Sandra ‘Sandy’ K. West, 80, passed away February 26, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society-Hutchinson Village. She was born September 22, 1942, in Hutchinson, KS, to Benjamin Franklin Lock and Fannie Bertha (Sims) Lock. Sandy was the last daughter born into the Lock family.
Sandy was a 1960 graduate of Hutchinson High School and attended Hutchinson Community College. She worked at the Kansas State Employment Service for 10 years. Sandy and her husband Wilson, worked together at a car wash and laundry for 9 years. She then went to work as a clerk for a property and casualty insurance company.
Sandy was an active member of the McCandless Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization and a 20-year volunteer for the American Heart Association. She was an active charter member of Faith United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, KS.
On October 4, 1969, Sandy married the love of her life, Wilson Lee West, in Hutchinson, KS. They shared over 53 years of marriage. This union was blessed with two children, Amy Sue West in November in 1970 and Andrew Lee West in 1977. In 1989, Amy had a child, April Marie West, and Wilson and Sandy adopted her.
She is survived by: her husband, Wilson Lee West of Hutchinson, KS; children, Andrew West and April West, both of Hutchinson, KS; grandson, Adam McVey; sons-in-law, Richard McVey and Danny Manigan; great-granddaughter, Rayne Hedrick; ‘sister-at-heart’, Nancy George; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Sandy was preceded in death by: her parents; parents-in-law; daughter, Amy Sue McVey; brothers, Cleo Lock and James Lock; sisters, Aliene Solida, Bertha Thompson, Edith Henderson, and Mary Wallingford; and infant brothers, Billy Lock and Foreman Lock.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Faith United Methodist Church, 820 E. 30th, Hutchinson, KS, with Reverend Larry Brock officiating. Burial in the Dighton Cemetery, Dighton, KS, will be at a later date. Cremation has taken place per Sandy’s wishes.
