NEW YORK (AP) — All 30 major league teams played on the same day Saturday for the first time since July 26.

The league’s plan to play a pandemic-shortened 60-game regular season has been interrupted by positive coronavirus tests, protests over racial injustice, a hurricane and rain — and that’s just in the past week.

COVID-19 testing has postponed 37 games. The first was a Marlins-Orioles game July 27 after Miami experienced a team-wide outbreak during the season’s opening weekend. The most recent was a Mets-Yankees game Aug. 23 following positive tests for a Mets player and coach received Aug. 20.

The entire league was supposed to play Tuesday when the Mets returned to action, but a Yankees-Braves game in Atlanta was postponed by rain.

On Wednesday, three games were postponed as players opted not to play in response to the shooting by police of a Black man in Wisconsin — a movement that led to seven more postponements Thursday and one Friday.

Additionally, a game between the Angels and Astros in Houston was postponed Wednesday due to Hurricane Laura. The Astros then skipped their game Friday night against Oakland in a player protest.

Major League Baseball is trying to catch up on all the missed games with a bevy of doubleheaders, which have been shortened to a pair of seven-inning games this season. Saturday’s slate featured three twinbills.

The league said Friday that 84 of 90,888 samples tested for the coronavirus this season have returned a positive result, which is 0.09%.

MADISON, Ill. (AP) — Scott Dixon and Takuma Sato had a 20-lap chase for the win Saturday with Dixon reversing the finishing order from the Indianapolis 500 a week ago. Sato won the Indy 500 by holding off Dixon but Dixon at &nbsp;World Wide Technology Raceway outside of St. Louis for the victory. It was Dixon's fourth win of the season and 50th of his career. He trails Mario Andretti by two wins for second on IndyCar's all-time win list. Dixon also has a 117-point lead in the standings.&nbsp;

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (AP) — Gianluca Busio scored and Sporting Kansas City survived the final several minutes down a man to tie the Colorado Rapids 1-1 on Saturday night. Colorado defender Danny Wilson's header cleared a corner kick by Kansas City , but it went straight to Busio well outside the area, where he blasted a right-footer inside the near post to make it 1-1 in the 67th minute. Cole Bassett chipped a shot into the top of the net to give Colorado the lead in the 57th. Kansas City's Gadi Kinda was shown a yellow card in the 65th minute and a red in the 78th.

Bucks close out Magic; Rockets crush Thunder

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) — The NBA Playoffs have resumed with the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers closing out their opening-round series.

Giannis Antetokounmpo (YAH'-nihs an-the-toh-KOON'-poh) and Khris Middleton each had double-doubles as the Bucks dumped the Magic, 118-104 to advance to the second round.

Antetokounmpo contributed 28 points and 17 rebounds for the Bucks, who took the last four games after dropping the opener. Middleton added 21 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and nailed a 3-pointer that put Milwaukee ahead, 74-53 early in the second half.

Bucks players Sterling Brown and Paul George elected to sit out the game, which was postponed three days by a league-wide boycott following the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin, last weekend. Brown has a federal lawsuit pending against the city of Milwaukee alleging he was targeted because he was Black. He also alleges that his civil rights were violated in January 2018 when officers used a stun gun on him after a parking violation.

The Lakers also earned a Game 5 win as Anthony Davis and LeBron James combined for 79 points in a 131-122 triumph over the Trail Blazers.

Davis led the Los Angeles scoresheet with 43 points, while James delivered 36 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Davis had a personal 9-0 run to put Los Angeles up 123-112 after the Lakers wasted a 14-point, third-quarter lead.

The rest of the Laker starters combined for 21 points, 14 coming from Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

CJ McCollum had a team-high 36 points and Carmelo Anthony contributed 27 for the Trail Blazers, who dropped four straight after winning the opener.

The Rockets own a 3-2 series lead following a 114-80 pounding of the Thunder.

James Harden finished with 31 points to extend his run of playoff games with at least 20 points to 18. 

Robert Covington had 22 points and Eric Gordon added 20 for the Rockets, who welcomed back Russell Westbrook from his quad injury. Westbrook had seven points, seven assists and six rebounds in 23 ½ minutes.

UNDATED (AP) — Former Connecticut star and longtime top sixth man in the NBA Cliff Robinson has died at 53.

Robinson's death Saturday was confirmed by UConn. No cause of death was given, though former Huskies coach Jim Calhoun said Robinson had a stroke 2 1/2 years ago.

Nicknamed Uncle Cliffy, Robinson played 18 seasons in the NBA and helped the Portland Trail Blazers reach two NBA Finals. Before that, he was the centerpiece of Calhoun's early teams at UConn. 

Robinson was the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year in 1993 and made his lone All-Star appearance the following year.

Lightning beat Bruins again...Isles go up 2-1

UNDATED (AP) — The Tampa Bay Lightning are one victory away from a spot in the NHL's Eastern Conference final.

The Lightning enjoy a three-games-to-one lead after scoring the first three goals and playing sound defense in a 3-1 win over the Bruins.

Ondrej Palat (AHN'-dray pah-LAHT') scored in each of the first two periods, giving him four goals in the last three games.

Victor Hedman scored a power-play goal late in the second after Nick Ritchie received a five-minute major penalty for his hit on Yanni Gourde (YAH'-nee gohrd).

Andrei Vasilevskiy (va-sih-LEHV'-skee) stopped 29 shots and Nikita Kucherov (KOO'-cheh-rahv) had two assists while also providing a defensive presence. Vasilievskiy was perfect until Jake DeBrusk scored a power-play goal seven minutes into the third.

Semyon Varlamov stopped 26 shots and the Islanders scored three straight goals to beat the Flyers, 3-1 and take a 2-1 lead in the second-round series. 

Varlamov did his best work while the Flyers were outskating the Isles in the first period, allowing only a Tyler Pitlick goal at the 14:18 mark.

Matt Martin tied it 7:12 into the second and Leo Komarov put the Isles ahead with less than six seconds left in the period. 

Anders Lee cashed in on a power-play opportunity 3:41 into the third.

The Golden Knights also went up 2-1 in their series with the Canucks.

Alex Tuch (tuhk) and Zach Whitecloud scored 1:23 apart early in the first period to ignite a 3-0 win for Vegas over Vancouver. Robin Lehner (LEH'-nur) turned back 31 shots for his second shutout in three games, five days after he surrendered four goals in a 5-2 loss.

Mark Stone added a power-play goal early in the third period.

Racial injustice not forgotten as NHL resumes playoffs

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — Before playoff hockey returned to its usual intensity, the NHL and its players took time Saturday to highlight racial injustice and the sport's role in confronting it.

Players pushed to postpone two days worth of games to protest the police shooting of Black man Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin, which came three months after the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer. More than 48 hours of reflection culminated with a pregame presentation in Toronto before the Tampa Bay Lightning and Boston Bruins faced off.

Retired goaltender Kevin Weekes narrated a video montage on the subject that included clips by fellow minority players Matt Dumba of the Minnesota Wild and Ryan Reaves of the Vegas Golden Knights.

UNDATED (AP) — The Cleveland Indians have climbed into first place in the American League Central, one game ahead of the Chicago White Sox and 1 1/2 in front of the Minnesota Twins.

Tyler Naquin's (NAY'-kwihnz) RBI double in the 12th inning lifted the Indians past the Cardinals, 2-1. It was Cleveland's fifth hit of the afternoon and first since the eighth inning.

It was a tough day for Cardinals catcher Yadier (YAH'-dee-ehr) Molina, who bounced into a double play to end the eleventh and was tagged out between third and home to end the game.

Indians hurler Carlos Carrasco allowed two hits and two walks with six strikeouts in six scoreless innings for his quality start since Aug. 6 versus Cincinnati. 

The White Sox lost for just the second time in 12 games, while the Twins dropped a doubleheader to the Tigers. 

The Royals cooled off the White Sox, 9-6 as Maikel (MY'-kehl) Franco and Ryan McBroom homered during Kansas City's five-run seventh. Ryan O'Hearn and Alex Gordon also went deep to help the Royals win for just the second time in seven games.

The Twins absorbed 8-2 and 4-2 losses in Detroit. Matthew Boyd pitched six solid innings for his first victory of the season, and Victor Reyes had four hits in the opener. Miguel Cabrera hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to lead the Tigers' to victory in the nightcap.

— Lance McCullers Jr. threw six strong innings and Kyle Tucker hit a three-run homer in the Astros' 4-2 decision over the Athletics in Game 1 of a twinbill. Josh Reddick also connected for Houston.

— Kyle Tucker hit a bases-loaded triple in the first inning and George Springer homered as the Astros beat the Athletics, 6-3 for a doubleheader sweep. The Astros have won four of five to get within 2 1/2 games of the AL West-leading A's.

Byron wins as Johnson is eliminated from title contention

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Jimmie Johnson's final season as a full-time driver will end without another title.

The seven-time NASCAR champion missed the playoffs in the Cup Series regular-season finale at Daytona International Speedway after being involved in a multi-car crash with five laps to go.

Johnson's teammate at Hendrick Motorsports, William Byron, won the race in overtime and locked up one of the three postseason berths available going into the finale. It was Byron's first Cup victory.

Matt DiBenedetto finished 12th and secured the final spot. Clint Bowyer wrapped up a berth at the end of the opening stage.

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. (AP) — Dustin Johnson and Hideki Matsuyama (hih-DEH'-kee mat-soo-AH'-mah) are co-leaders through three rounds of the PGA's BMW Championship.

Both survived another demanding day at Olympia Fields, scratching out 1-under 69s that felt better than it looked under tough conditions. Johnson and Matsuyama are the only players below par.

DENVER (AP) — The San Diego Padres have acquired Trevor Rosenthal in a trade with the Kansas City Royals, bolstering their bullpen for their pursuit of their first playoff appearance in 14 years. San Diego thought its bullpen would be one of its biggest strengths this year after it traded for Emilio Pagán and signed Drew Pomeranz in free agency. But it has been hit hard by injuries, losing closer Kirby Yates for the rest of the season because of an inflamed right elbow. The 30-year-old Rosenthal has a 3.29 ERA and seven saves in 14 games. The last-place Royals obtained outfielder Edward Olivares and a player to be named in the deal.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — William Byron snaked his way through a smoky crash late Saturday night at Daytona International Speedway and narrowly avoided another melee a few laps later.

Those moves got him to victory lane for the first time in his young NASCAR Cup Series career and back in the playoffs for the second consecutive season.

They also helped knock out Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jimmie Johnson, a seven-time series champion whose final season won’t end with another title.

Winless in 120 races, Johnson made a trip to victory lane to congratulate Byron and the No. 24 team, the one now directed by Johnson’s former and long-time crew chief, Chad Knaus.

“It’s a big win for Chad Knaus and William Byron,” Johnson said. “I really felt like we had a way to transfer, to win, or point our way in and things just got ugly. Unfortunate, but that’s plate racing.”

Byron won the race in overtime after two late cautions and locked up one of the three postseason berths available going into the finale. Matt DiBenedetto finished 12th and secured the final spot. Clint Bowyer wrapped up a berth at the end of the opening stage.

“It was too eventful,” said DiBenedetto, whose parents drove down from North Carolina to watch from the stands. “I’m mentally worn out. I’m gonna sleep great tonight, but there was so much going on there at the end.”

Chase Elliott finished second, followed by Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr. and Bubba Wallace.

Johnson looked as if he would land one of those three playoff spots. But he got shuffled back in the final stage and then got caught up in a wreck in the closing laps that started when Hamlin made contact with Joey Logano. Byron squeezed between the two, took the lead and held on after a green-white-checkered finish.

It was the ninth overtime finish at Daytona’s summertime race in the last 13 years.

Byron didn’t care how he got it, just that he finally did.

“It’s been a hard couple of years in the Cup Series and trying to get my first win and trying to gel with this team,” Byron said. “These guys have done an awesome job and to be in the playoffs is amazing, man.”

About 20,000 fans spread out across Daytona’s massive motorsports stadium and were treated to a frantic finish. The race was pretty clean for most of the night, but got crazy down the stretch.

Tyler Reddick started the first multi-car crash by trying to block Kyle Busch after getting a huge push to take the lead. Busch clipped Reddick’s bumper, sending him into the outside wall and collecting several other cars.

Busch, Erik Jones, Kurt Busch, Austin Dillon, Ryan Newman, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and others were knocked out.

“(Reddick) just ran out of talent,” Newman said. “All it takes is one goofball to make a mistake.”

Reddick accepted responsibility for the wreck.

“If someone made that move on me, I’d be pretty mad, too,” he said.

Byron swerved his way through clouds of smoke to stay in the mix there. He was even luckier after Hamlin and Logano got together.

“I wasn’t going to lift,” Byron said. “It was awesome.”

He did a burnout that included a few spins through Daytona’s wet infield grass and then headed to victory lane for the first time in three years.

Johnson met him there, quite possibly a visual changing of the guard at Hendrick. The 22-year-old hotshot is headed back to the postseason with a long-awaited victory and the 44-year-old veteran is sliding into retirement without the storybook ending he talked all week about wanting to at least maintain as a possibility.

Byron has taken remote classes at Liberty University, and the winning car carried sponsorship from the school. The deal was brokered between Hendrick Motorsports and Jerry Falwell Jr., who stepped down this week shrouded in scandal as head of the university.

Wallace said before the race that there was not much of a dialogue among NASCAR drivers regarding sitting out the Cup Series regular-season finale at Daytona.

NASCAR pressed on at its historic track while other sports postponed games and practices this week in the wake of the shooting of Jacob Blake, a Black man, by a white police officer in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

“We still have a lot of work to do as a nation to make things better for us, our next generation coming up through,” Wallace told NBC Sports before the race. “Us not following suit (with other sports) does not mean that we’re standing down. We still know what’s on our table or what’s on our plate to go out and accomplish and attempt to accomplish to make this a better place.”

The playoffs begin at next Sunday Darlington Raceway.

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Lute Olson, the Hall of Fame coach who turned Arizona into a college basketball powerhouse, has died. He was 85. Olson's family said he died Thursday evening. The cause of death wasn't given. Olson spent 24 seasons at Arizona, revitalizing a fan base in the desert while transforming a program that had been to the NCAA Tournament just three times in 79 years before he was hired in 1983. Olson first took the Wildcats to the NCAA Tournament during his second season in Tucson to start a string of 25 straight appearances. The Wildcats won a national championship under Olson in 1997 with a team led by Mike Bibby, Jason Terry and Miles Simon.

UNDATED (AP) — A group of Nebraska football players filed a lawsuit asking a jury to force the Big Ten Conference to reinstate a fall football season. The lawsuit in Lancaster County District Court in Lincoln contends, among other things, the players lost opportunities for development in football, will lose exposure for possible professional football opportunities and won't be able to market themselves in order to eventually capitalize on name, image and likeness revenue opportunities. The Big Ten said the lawsuit has no merit.

FREMONT, Neb. (AP) — Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska, and four other small colleges in the state are moving forward with plans to play football this fall. Meanwhile, the Cornhuskers in Lincoln will be sitting idle because of the Big Ten decision to postpone the season until spring because of the coronavirus pandemic. At Midland, players and staff adhere to protocols put in place to mitigate the risk of being infected. Linebacker Theo Blum says he and his teammates are grateful to be able to play. Tight end Austin Harris invites Huskers fans to adopt Midland as its team to cheer for in 2020.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Erik Gonzalez and Adam Frazier singled in runs, rookie Cody Ponce earned his first big league victory and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the St. Louis Cardinals 2-0 for a doubleheader sweep. Cole Tucker drove in the go-ahead run in extra innings in the Pirates' 4-3 win in the opener. Ponce was used as a reliever in his first two appearances this season and made his first major league start. He went 5 2/3 innings, holding the Cardinals scoreless and scattering five hits. Nick Turley pitched the seventh to record his first save in the majors. Prior to this year, Turley hadn't appeared in affiliated ball since 2017 due to elbow injuries.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs had most of the summer to celebrate their first Super Bowl title in 50 years. That's because they weren't allowed anywhere near the practice facility due to the COVID-19 shutdown. &nbsp;But after back-and-forth negotiations between the league and its players' union crafted the rules for a season that promises to be unlike any other, the Chiefs are set to begin the defense of their crown against the Houston Texans on Sept. 10. And with plenty of returning starters, including stars such as Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill, the Chiefs believe they can pull it off.

UNDATED (AP) — St. Louis Blues winger Vladimir Tarasenko will undergo surgery on his left shoulder once again and won't be evaluated for another five months. It will be Tarasenko's third operation on that shoulder in the past two and a half years. He's now in danger of missing the start of the next NHL season after missing a vast majority of this past season following surgery in October. General manager Doug Armstrong says there's concern because of how many times Tarasenko has had the same shoulder surgically repaired.&nbsp;

(AP) — During this most atypical of training camps, when a slow ramp-up replaced any preseason games, the Chiefs have found themselves going first-team offense against first-team defense quite a bit. The result? Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's bunch are forced to get ready for the opener Sept. 10 against Houston while facing one of the most dynamic offenses in the NFL, which in turn is trying to shred the Chiefs defense as Patrick Mahomes and the rest of them are fine-tuning themselves.

NBA prepares to restart after protest pause

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) — The NBA playoffs are set to resume Saturday, after the league and the National Basketball Players Association detailed the commitments that made players comfortable continuing the postseason. 

In a joint statement released Friday, the sides say they will immediately establish a social justice coalition, made up of players, coaches and owners, that would focus on issues such as voting access and advocating for meaningful police and criminal justice reform. 

Play stopped Wednesday when the Milwaukee Bucks didn't take the court for their playoff game against Orlando to protest the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Wisconsin and acts of racial injustice. There have been no games since, while players met among themselves and with coaches and owners before an agreement to resume was reached. All 13 teams remaining in the postseason scheduled practice Friday.

Players are calling on people to vote, hopefully in their home arenas. Many within the league of primarily Black players have focused on the importance of voting and the need for places in inner cities where minorities can do so safely. 

Madison Square Garden is one of eight arenas ready to open its doors on Election Day. Los Angeles Clippers coach Doc Rovers said Miami is working hard to make its facility available. Thunder guard Chris Paul pointed out that practice facilities would be helpful if arenas can't be secured.

The players and the league will also immediately establish a social justice coalition, made up of players, coaches and owners. The coalition will focus on issues such as voting access and advocating for meaningful police and criminal justice reform.

And the NBA and players will work with TV networks to create advertising spots during the remainder of the postseason to promote greater engagement in the election process and their communities.

Porzingis to miss rest of Mavs-Clippers series

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) — Kristaps Porzingis (KRIHS'-tahps pohr-ZIHN'-gihs) will miss the rest of the Dallas Mavericks' series against the Los Angeles Clippers because of a torn ligament in his right knee. The team said it is looking into treatment options but added that Porzingis wouldn't be medically cleared the rest of the series. Porzingis averaged 23.7 points and 8.7 rebounds in the first three games of the series.

UNDATED (AP) — The NHL's second-round playoff series will resume this weekend with three games each on Saturday and Sunday after players prompted the league to postpone two days of action to protest racial injustice.

The postponements of four games to be played Thursday and Friday have led the NHL to push back the potential completion of the second-round schedule by as many as two days should three of the series require a Game 7. 

NASCAR plans to race, Wallace says fight for racial equality goes on

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — NASCAR drivers don't plan to skip Saturday's race at Daytona International Speedway to raise awareness of social and racial injustices. But Bubba Wallace says that decision should not be interpreted as "turning away from the dark and evil acts that have taken over our nation." 

The 26-year-old Wallace is the only fulltime Black driver in the Cup series and has been a leader in pushing NASCAR for more diversity and its recent ban on the Confederate flag at racetracks. He was the first driver to address any action potentially planned at Daytona as other sports leagues have reacted to the police shooting of a Black man in Wisconsin. 

UNDATED (AP) — Dom Smith was tearful on Wednesday, grateful on Thursday and gleeful on Friday afternoon.

Smith belted a tiebreaking solo homer while the New York Mets scored five times in the sixth inning to beat the Yankees, 6-4 in Game 1 of a doubleheader. The homer came two days after he made an impassioned statement about racial injustice in the wake of the Jacob Blake shooting in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The Mets responded by rallying around Smith on Thursday, staging an on-field demonstration with the Miami Marlins before the two teams boycotted their game.

The Yankees led 4-1 until the Mets homered three times in the sixth. Pete Alonso tied it with a three-run blast and Jake Marisnick gave the Mets breathing room with a solo shot.

Clint Frazier belted a two-run homer and had three RBIs for the Yankees, who have dropped six straight since a six-game winning streak.

Smith also hit an RBI single in the nightcap, but the Mets completed a sweep by defeating the Yankees, 4-3 on Amed Rosario's two-run, walk-off homer off Aroldis Chapman in the seventh. The Mets scored nine of their 10 runs in the doubleheader from the fifth inning on.

The opener of the doubleheader was the first game on Jackie Robinson Day. Robinson first met with Dodgers owner Branch Rickey on Aug. 28, 1945 to discuss breaking the color barrier in baseball, and the 1963 March on Washington was held on the same day. Jackie Robinson Day is usually April 15, the day of his first major league game. The date was moved when the major league season had to be delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

— The Astros-Athletics game in Houston was the 11th to be boycotted by big league players since Wednesday. The two teams took their positions on the field and headed toward the clubhouses after a moment of silence. A Black Lives Matter T-shirt was draped across home plate.

— The sizzling White Sox wasted a one-run lead in the ninth before Yasmani Grandal (yahs-MAH'-nee grahn-DAHL') hit a walk-off blast in the bottom half to give Chicago its 10th win in 11 games, 6-5 versus the Royals. Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert also homered for the White Sox, who lead the AL with 62 round-trippers.

— Franmil (FRAHN'-meel) Reyes was 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and five RBIs as part of the Indians' 20-hit attack in a 14-2 laugher over the Cardinals. Carlos Santana and Tyler Naquin (NAY'-kwihn) chipped in two-run homers as Cleveland moved into a three-way tie with Minnesota and Chicago for the AL Central lead.

— Ryan Yarbrough worked into the seventh inning and two relievers completed a five-hitter in the Rays' 2-0 shutout of the Marlins. Yarbrough struck out five and allowed four hits over 6 2/3 frames of Tampa Bay's 12th win in 15 games.

— The Blue Jays pulled out a 5-4 win over the Orioles on Randal Grichuk's (GRIH'-chuhks) two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Teoscar (tay-AHS'-kur) Hernandez hit longballs in the fourth inning of Toronto's ninth victory in 12 games.

— Mike Trout's 11th home run of the year was the difference as the Angels downed the Mariners, 3-2. Andrew Heaney struck out 10 and limited Seattle to a run and four hits over 7 2/3's.

— Derek Dietrich's solo homer broke a 2-2 tie in a four-run seventh that sent the Rangers past the Dodgers, 6-2. Texas starter Mike Minor scattered four hits over six innings and left with a 2-0 lead.

— Ty France drove in four runs and Zach Davies didn't allow an earned run over 5 2/3 innings to lead the Padres' ninth win in 11 games, 10-4 over the Rockies. Eric Hosmer and Wil Myers went 4-for-5 with three runs scored, while France and Manny Machado added three hits apiece.

— Scott Kingery launched a three-run, walk-off homer in the 11th inning to lift the Phillies past the Braves, 7-4. Andrew McCutchen and Jean Segura belted two-run homers for the Phils, who almost wasted a good starting pitching performance after Zack Wheeler held Atlanta to one earned run over 5 2/3 innings.

— The Reds picked up a 6-5 win over the Cubs behind Tyler Mahle (MAH'-lee), who gave up two solo homers but no other hits while fanning 11 over 6 2/3 innings. Eugenio Suarez, Jess Winker and Freddy Galvis (GAL'-vees) smacked solo homers in Cincinnati's third victory in a row.

— Jedd Gyorko (JUR'-koh) belted two of the Brewers' four home runs in a 9-1 rout of the Pirates. Ryan Braun and Jacob Nottingham also left the yard to back Corbin Burnes, who fanned 10 while firing three-hit ball over six shutout innings.

— Juan Soto and Howie Kendrick hit back-to-back homers in a five-run third that highlighted the Nationals' 10-2 dismantling of the Red Sox. Trea Turner and Victor Robles had three hits apiece and Josh Harrison also homered to back Max Scherzer, who struck out 11 over six innings.

— The Diamondbacks' eight-game losing streak is over after Starling Marte and Christian Walker drove in two runs apiece in a 7-4 decision over the Giants. Winning pitcher Zac Gallen was terrific and opening the season with six straight no-decisions, holding San Francisco to a run and five hits over seven innings.

— The Tigers-Twins doubleheader in Detroit has been postponed because of bad weather. One game will be made up as part of doubleheaders on Saturday and Sept. 4.

UNDATED (AP) — The Yankees have placed right fielder Aaron Judge on the 10-day injured list again with a strained left calf just days after the star slugger returned. Judge was activated Wednesday but aggravated the injury in a game at Atlanta and was removed in the sixth inning. 

— Two people with knowledge of the trade tell The Associated Press that the Athletics have acquired infielder 2019 All-Star infielder Tommy La Stella from the for infielder Franklin Barreto. La Stella is in the final year of his contract with the Angels, who acquired him from the Cubs in November 2018. He is batting .273 with four homers and 14 RBIs this season while playing second base and first base for struggling Los Angeles.

— The White Sox acquired speedy outfielder Jarrod Dyson from Pittsburgh and reinstated Nick Madrigal from the 10-day injured list. Dyson is batting just .157 this season, but he swiped 30 bags last year. The White Sox sent international signing bonus pool money to the last-place Pirates for the 36-year-old Dyson. 

AP Source: Big Ten working on multiple options for football

UNDATED (AP) — Big Ten coaches, athletic directors and medical personnel are working on multiple plans for staging a football season, including one that would have the league kicking off as soon as Thanksgiving weekend.

A person with direct knowledge of the conference's discussions told The Associated Press the conference is in the early stages of a complicated process that also involves broadcast partners and possible neutral site venues.

Any plan will need the approval of university presidents and chancellors. The person told the AP that the Big Ten will only play if certain benchmarks related to the coronavirus — such as transmission rates, testing capacity and availability, and testing accuracy — are met in each of the 11 states that are home to the league's 14 schools.

The Big Ten announced on Aug. 11 it was postponing its fall football season because of concerns about playing during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Pac-12 and some smaller conferences soon followed suit.

The Big Ten and first-year commissioner Kevin Warren have faced pushback and criticism ever since, including a lawsuit filed by eight Nebraska players who want the decision overturned.

— Seven members of the Kansas State football team have tested positive for COVID-19 in the first outbreak since the Wildcats convened for summer workouts in June. The Wildcats will continue to practice for the season-opener Sept. 12 against Arkansas State. 

— Tennessee football coach Jeremy Pruitt canceled Friday's practice after what he called "a few more positive tests." Pruitt had adjusted the schedule for Saturday to allow his players to take part in an on-campus march against racism.
