IOWA CITY, Iowa — One day after&nbsp;Iowa State announced&nbsp;it would allow 25,000 fans into next week’s season opener, the university has reversed course.

In a story first reported by WHO Radio’s Simon Conway, the university released a letter reversing course on its policy and plan for next week’s game against Louisiana-Lafayette.

In part, the letter from AD Jamie Pollard read,&nbsp;“President Wintersteen shared with me on Tuesday evening that, after weighing feedback she has received from the community, she has decided to reverse the decision [to allow 25,000 fans into the game]. As a result we will play the season opener without fans . . . We are in this together and will do everything we can to support Dr. Wintersteen and her leadership team in their efforts to lead our institution during very challenging times. Although it is disappointing there won’t be fans at the opener, our institution’s leadership team is still committed to having spectators at future games if it can be done safely.”

The nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year college.

Knowles is the second Wildcat to be a candidate for the award as running back&nbsp;John Hubert&nbsp;– a Waco native – was a preseason candidate in&nbsp;2013.

A product of Mansfield, Texas, Knowles played in 11 games with eight starts last season, hauling in 27 catches for 397 yards and three touchdowns as he earned votes from the league’s coaches for the Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year award. He also returned six kickoffs for 222 yards and a touchdown. His return touchdown was a 100-yarder at Mississippi State to tie the game in the fourth quarter as the Wildcats went on to win, 31-24.

His seven stolen bases were third most in the American League, one behind the league leaders. Merrifield has recorded at least 30 hits in 10 consecutive full months dating back to July 2018, the longest streak by an American League player since Ichiro Suzuki went 11 straight months from May 2007-September 2008 (Elias). His seven home runs through August were one shy of Jorge Soler for the team lead, and project out to 32 home runs over a 162-game season, which would smash his career high of 19 homers set in 2017. Four of his seven homers tied the game or gave Kansas City a lead, including a pair of tying home runs last weekend in Chicago. UNDATED (AP) — A new court filing shows that Big Ten presidents voted 11-3 to postpone the football season until spring. The court filing is the Big Ten's response to a lawsuit brought by a group of Nebraska football players who want the fall season reinstated. The Big Ten announced Aug. 11 it would move its football season from fall &nbsp;to spring because of health risks associated with the coronavirus pandemic. The filing did not identify how each school specifically voted, but a person familiar with the outcome told The Associated Press Iowa, Nebraska and Ohio State voted against postponing the fall football season.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — The NCAA has granted immediate eligibility to Iowa State guard Tyler Harris, who transferred from Memphis after last season. Harris averaged 9.9 points per game and made 138 3-pointers in two seasons with the Tigers. He has started 15 of 67 career games. Harris has scored 10 or more points 35 times, posting a career-high 25 in a win against Charleston as a freshman. He is a career 33% shooter on 3-pointers and 84% on free throws. Iowa State also added transfers Jalen Coleman-Lands from DePaul and Blake Hinson from Mississippi.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) — Last year's Boston Celtics won their first five NBA playoff games before dropping the next four to the Milwaukee Bucks. That trend won't continue this year.

The Celtics are 6-0 in this postseason and owners of a two-games-to-none lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals after rallying for a 102-99 win over the Toronto Raptors. Boston carried an eight-point deficit into the final period before outscoring the defending champs, 32-21.

Jayson Tatum poured in 34 points and Marcus Smart added 19 for the Celts, who hit 15 of their 38 3-point attempts and were 23 of 25 from the line. Smart nailed five 3-pointers in the final period.

Smart made 3-pointers on three consecutive possessions in a 73-second span early in the fourth. He added another 3 about a minute later and a four-point play a minute after that, putting Boston up 86-85 with 7:55 left. It was part of a 29-9 run that put Boston up, 95-87 with 4:18 left.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Calif. (AP) — Milwaukee Bucks players and the team's coach said Tuesday they were disappointed that the Wisconsin Legislature didn't take action on policing reform bills during a special session Monday called by Gov. Tony Evers.

In a Zoom session on Tuesday, Bucks guard Kyle Korver called the Legislature's inaction "disappointing."

Democrats urged Republicans who control the Legislature to take up the bills, but both the state Senate and Assembly met for less than 30 seconds each before ending the session. Republican leaders gave no indication when they may reconvene. 

TORONTO (AP) — The Philadelphia Flyers are still alive in the Stanley Cup Playoffs after beating the Islanders in overtime for the second time in the series.

Scott Laughton scored 12:20 into the extra session to give the Flyers a 4-3 victory, cutting New York's series lead to three games to two. Laughton was the hero after the Isles scored twice late in the third period to tie it.

Claude Giroux (juh-ROO'), James van Riemsdyk (REEMZ'-dyk) and Matt Niskanen (NIHS'-kah-nehn) each scored their first goals of the playoffs to stake the Flyers to a 3-1 lead after Josh Bailey put New York ahead with a power-play goal early in the second period. Brock Nelson got the Islanders within 3-2 at the 15:46 mark of the third period, 1:33 before Derrick Brassard tied it.

Like the Flyers, the Canucks forced a sixth game by escaping with a 2-1 win over the dominant Golden Knights.

Elias (eh-LEE'-uhs) Pettersson scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period to back Thatcher Demko, who made 42 saves in his first NHL playoff start.

Vegas outshot Vancouver 43-17 yet scored just once, on a highlight reel goal by defenseman Shea Theodore in the second. Brock Boeser (BEH'-sur) also scored for the Canucks and got the primary assist on Pettersson's goal by taking the shot the 21-year-old Swede deflected past Robin Lehner (LEH'-nur). 

UNDATED (AP) — The New York Yankees had dropped six straight to Tampa Bay before finally solving the Rays on Tuesday.

Gio Urshela (ur-SHEH'-luh) hit a tiebreaking, two-run double and came around to score on the play to lift the Yankees past the Rays, 5-3. Urshela plated an insurance run on an error by Willy Adames (ah-DAH'-mehs), beating the tag at the plate.

The game ended with empty benches after Tampa Bay pinch-hitter Michael Brosseau took exception to being buzzed near the head by Aroldis Chapman. The Yankees closer struck out Brosseau to end it, and Brosseau began walking toward the visiting dugout before turning back to exchange words with someone on the Yankees.

DJ LeMahieu (leh-MAY'-hyoo) hit a pair of solo homers for the Bombers, who are 2-7 versus Tampa Bay this season.

The Rays now lead the AL East by 3 1/2 games over New York.

— Chris Taylor collected a season-high four RBIs and Julio Urías (YOO'-ree-uhs) pitched six innings of four-hit ball in the Dodgers' 6-3 victory over the Diamondbacks. Taylor, AJ Pollock and Max Muncy had two hits apiece as Los Angeles won for the 16th time in its last 19 games.

— Alex Dickerson hit three home runs and matched a career high with six RBIs as the Giants rolled to their 10th win in 13 games, a 23-5 dismantling of the Rockies. Brandon Crawford also homered among his three hits and had six RBIs, while Donovan Solano supplied four hits and six ribbies.

Final game of Oakland-Seattle series postponed

UNDATED (AP) — Thursday's game between the Seattle Mariners and visiting Oakland Athletics has been postponed, wiping out the entire three-game series. The decision allows for additional testing and contact tracing after a member of the Athletics' organization tested positive for the coronavirus. 

Major League Baseball says the series will be made up with a doubleheader in Seattle on Sept. 14 and another in Oakland on Sept. 26. 

— Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner has landed on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring. Turner injured his hamstring while stealing second base at Texas last Friday. The major league-leading Dodgers also activated third baseman Edwin Ríos and left-hander Alex Wood from the injured list.

Murray wins in 5 after falling behind 0-2

NEW YORK (AP) — Andy Murray needed over 4 1/2 hours to win his first Grand Slam match in nearly 20 months, dropping the first two sets before earning a 4-6, 4-6, 7-6, 7-6, 6-4 triumph over Yoshihito Nishioka at the U.S. Open. 

The 33-year-old Murray is coming off two hiop surgeries and was treated for blisters on his two big toes by a trainer during a medical timeout during the match. 

Serena Williams began her latest attempt to win a 24th Grand Slam singles trophy by beating Kristie Ahn.

The two Americans split the first 10 games before Williams pulled away to win 7-5, 6-3. The victory was her 102nd at the tournament, breaking the tie she held with Chris Evert for the most by a woman in the Open era.

Venus Williams lost in the opening round at the U.S. Open for the first time in her long career. Williams had been 21-0 in first rounders before her 6-3, 7-5 loss to No. 20-seeded Karolina Muchova.

Kim Clijsters (KLYS'-turz) couldn't win her first Grand Slam match in eight years. The four-time major champion was beaten by Ekaterina Alexandrova, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.

Winners in the men's bracket include second seed Dominic Thiem (teem), eighth seed Roberto Bautista-Agut (ah-GOO') and No. 10 Andrey Rublev. Second seed Sofia Kenin, fifth seed Aryna Sabalenka, seventh seed Madison Keys, No. 9 Johanna Konta and No. 10 Garbine Muguruza (moo-guh-ROO'-thuh) advanced on the women's side. Meanwhile, The Associated Press has learned that seven entrants have been placed under stricter COVID-19 protocols after contact with the only athlete to test positive for the coronavirus at the tournament. The seven include Richard Gasquet, Grégoire Barrère and Ysaline Bonaventure, each of whom played on Tuesday. One of the seven is Kirsten Flipkens, who was scheduled to compete on Wednesday.

Contact tracing determined there were seven players who potentially could have been exposed to COVID-19 by Benoit Paire who was taken out of the draw Sunday because of his test result.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — William Byron now has a contract extension through 2022 at Hendrick Motorsports. The extension was finalized in early August and announced today, three days after Byron's win at Daytona International Speedway earned him a berth in NASCAR's playoffs. Byron is in his third full season driving the No. 24 Chevrolet for Hendrick and is the first driver other than Jeff Gordon to win with that entry. 

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Tiz the Law is the 3-5 morning-line favorite for Saturday's Kentucky Derby and will attempt to become the first winner from the No. 17 post position drawn.

UNDATED (AP) — Running back Leonard Fournette is a free agent after going unclaimed 24 hours after being waived by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Fournette's representatives responded to the waiver move by formally filing a grievance against the Jaguars in an effort to recoup the $4.17 million in base salary he was initially guaranteed for this season. Jacksonville voided all remaining guarantees in Fournette's rookie deal following his one-game suspension for fighting with Buffalo linebacker Shaq Lawson in November 2018.

—The Raiders have placed receiver Tyrell Williams on season-ending injured reserve with a torn labrum in his shoulder. Williams got injured last month in practice and initially was going to try to play through the injury.

— The NFL has updated its game day protocols by requiring every coach and staff member in the bench area to wear a mask and reducing the size of each team's travel party. Owners also will have to follow COVID-19 testing requirements to gain access to the locker room, field or team charter. 

Michigan State's Nassar review mostly clears staff

DETROIT (AP) — Michigan State University mostly found no violations of campus policy in a review of roughly 20 former or current staff members, according to a report. 

Those staff members were said to have received complaints about Larry Nassar, the doctor convicted of molesting female athletes, according to a report Tuesday. 

The report is part of a 2019 agreement with the U.S. Education Department, which included a $4.5 million fine and MSU's pledge to greatly change how it responds to sexual harassment and assault. 

The school was required to determine if employees properly handled complaints about Nassar, based on policies in place at the time of the allegation. MSU found that the evidence mostly fell in favor of staff.

Hutchinson's Wyatt Johnson scored 5 goals versus Buhler in boys soccer action that was played in Buhler as the Salthawks shutout the Crusaders 7-0 on the pitch on Tuesday.

Hutch High took down Liberal 2-0 and&nbsp; Haysville-Campus 2-0 on Senior night as the Salthawk Activity Center Tuesday.&nbsp; Hutch is now 6-0 to start off the young season.

Buhler High's girls beat Rose Hill in straight sets and then won over Wichita Collegiate in 3 to move to 4-1 on the season.

Central Christian Varsity&nbsp; went 2-0 on the night! 25-11, 26-24 over Reno County Sabers,  then 25-23 and an impressive 25-8 over Elyria.

Buhler Girls tennis traveled to Wellington and came back champions in their 2nd varsity meet of the season.&nbsp; The won their 2nd championship of the season, this time at the Wellington invite.

WICHITA, Kan. —Athletes in USD 259 will be able to play fall sports after a Tuesday night decision by the Wichita School Board. 

The board voted 6-1 to approve a plan that would keep students in higher risk sports like football, cheer and dance along with most other team sports on remote learning during their seasons, as long as the district is still in the yellow or orange gating criteria.

Spectators will not be allowed. Streaming and online viewing will be encouraged.

Currently, all students in grades 6-12 in USD 259 will be on MySchoolRemote for the first nine weeks regardless.

For those activities defined as lower risk, such as individual running events, sideline cheer, cross country or band, students would be allowed to participate in activities as long as they followed both school and KSHSAA guidelines.

Parents and students 18 years and older would be asked to sign a waiver to acknowledge the benefits and risks of participating in activities during COVID.

The Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) board of directors has already approved a plan that would provide an alternative season for fall activities, if the regular season cannot finish.

LAWRENCE, Kan. —&nbsp;The University of Kansas announced Monday that it will begin its fall sports season without fans upon the recommendation of its pandemic medical advisory team.

That includes the Jayhawks’ football season-opener against Coastal Carolina on Sept. 12, along with volleyball, soccer and cross country contests.

The prohibition of fans includes tailgating for football at Memorial Stadium and games at the Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena, Rock Chalk Park and Rim Rock Farm through September.

The school plans to revisit the situation before its football game against Oklahoma State on Oct. 3.

Kansas Chancellor Doug Girod said “this is the right decision for our community at this time.”

In a message posted to the university’s website Monday, KU announced that the university won’t have fans at any sporting events through the month of September.

The following is a letter from AD Jeff Long to Jayhawk fans posted on the KU Athletics web-site Monday.

In this uncertain environment, I want to share some decisions and areas of focus on the near horizon for Kansas Athletics. As&nbsp;Chancellor Girod just shared, fans will not be permitted at KAI events in September based on medical recommendations.

We share the belief that by making this decision now, there will be a path that will allow us to host fans at football, soccer, cross country and volleyball in October and through the end of their respective seasons. There is an old adage of walk before you run, and we believe if we begin without fans in-venue this September, we will have a greater chance to host fellow Jayhawks in a safe environment in October and hopefully throughout the academic year.

While this also creates an entirely new set of questions and concern, here are some of the answers we have today:

What does this mean for my season tickets in football? Our ticket office staff is mailing football season tickets today, August 31, because we truly believe we will be able to host fans in David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium for Oklahoma State (Oct. 3), Iowa State (Oct. 31), Texas (Nov. 21) and TCU (Nov. 28).

What will be the percentage of capacity at Memorial Stadium when Douglas County allows KU to have fans in the venue? We are not guided by a specific percentage mandate. Our mandate is to socially distance all fans, and we believe that we can do that and still get all of our season ticket holders and a strong students section into the venue.

As a season ticket holder and donor, does that capacity for football include me? Yes, our priority is that every season ticket holder is included.

What will game day look like at Memorial Stadium? Our capacity plans include social distancing in the seating area, the requirement to wear masks, and other social distancing measures at concessions, restrooms and additional areas. These plans have been well-received by Douglas County Public Health Officials. The pause right now is related to the number of positive cases in our county, but once that number drops, we believe we have a plan in place that our county leadership will support.

Will my seats change if we are required to socially distance in the stadium? Yes, most fan’s seat locations will change due to the requirement that they be socially distanced. The Williams Education Fund and Ticket Office will share seat details and options in a subsequent communication.

What if I don’t like the new seat location or I don’t feel safe attending games? In the earlier stage of the pandemic, we shared a&nbsp;Ticket Assurance Plan&nbsp;with all season ticket holders. If you choose not to attend the games, here are your options:

(AP) — Maikel Franco and Bubba Starling had RBI singles in the eighth inning as the Kansas City Royals rallied to beat the Cleveland Indians 2-1 in the first game of a three-game series. It was the Royals' first win this season when trailing after seven innings. Scott Barlow picked up the win in relief for Kansas City.&nbsp;

Butler scores 40, Heat top Bucks 115-104 for 1-0 series lead

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) — Jimmy Butler scored a playoff career-high 40 points, Goran Dragic added 27 and the Miami Heat clamped down defensively in the final three quarters to beat the Milwaukee Bucks 115-104 in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series on Monday night. Bam Adebayo had 12 points, 17 rebounds and six assists for the fifth-seeded Heat, who are 3-1 overall against the top-seeded Bucks this season. Khris Middleton scored 28 points for Milwaukee, which also dropped Game 1 of its first-round series against Orlando. Brook Lopez had 24 points on 8 for 10 shooting, and Giannis Antetokounmpo had 18 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists for the Bucks.

Pelicans' Brandon Ingram named NBA most improved player

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram has been named the NBA's most improved player in a season that saw him bounce back from a life-altering blood clot and a trade from the team that drafted him second-overall in 2016.

Ingram, who came to New Orleans as part of a block-buster trade that sent Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers, averaged a team-leading and career-best 23.8 points per game while hitting 46.3% of his shots. He also became an NBA All-Star for the first time. Ingram received 42 first-place votes from a global panel of 100 sportswriters and broadcasters and earned 326 total points. H

Ingram credits former Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry for his success.

Hedman's goal gives Lightning 3-2 win over Bruins in 2nd OT

TORONTO (AP) — Victor Hedman scored with 5:50 left in the second overtime to give the Tampa Bay Lightning a 3-2 victory over the Boston Bruins and their fourth berth in the NHL's Eastern Conference finals in six seasons on Monday night.

Hedman beat goaltender Jaroslav Halak from the left circle, finishing a barrage that saw the Lightning outshoot Bruins 7-1 in the second OT. Tampa Bay improved to 5-0 in overtime games in this year's playoffs.

Man who admitted embezzling millions sentenced to prison

CHICAGO (AP) — An Illinois accountant who pleaded guilty to embezzling millions of dollars from a trustee of the Art Institute of Chicago and others to finance a luxurious lifestyle was sentenced Monday to 16½ years in prison. Three former Chicago Blackhawks players were among those scammed.

Sultan Issa admitted earlier this year that Art Institute trustee Roger L. Weston wasn't his only victim. Issa, who pleaded guilty to wire fraud in January, said he also stole millions from individual investors, including $500,000 from a widow who trusted him to invest funds from her late husband's estate. Most of the individual investors who lost money in Issa's scams were not identified in court records.

NEW YORK (AP) — Miguel Rojas hit a tiebreaking RBI single during Miami's four-run sixth inning against Jacob deGrom, and the Marlins beat the New York Mets 5-3. 

Garrett Cooper and Brian Anderson homered for Miami, which had dropped four in a row. Trevor Rogers pitched five effective innings for his first major league win, and Brandon Kintzler worked the ninth for his seventh save. Marlins second baseman Jonathan Villar made a diving catch in shallow center to rob the Mets of a run in the fifth, and then was replaced by a pinch hitter in the sixth. 

— Wil Myers homered and Garrett Richards led a committee of pitchers that scattered seven hits as the San Diego Padres beat the Colorado Rockies 6-0 Monday night. Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a two-run triple, Eric Hosmer had an RBI double and Jurickson Profar delivered an RBI single among his three hits, helping the Padres take three of four in the series. It was San Diego's fifth shutout in Denver and first since April 12, 2017.

— Luis Robert hit a tying homer in the seventh inning and the go-ahead double in the ninth, and the Chicago White Sox rallied to beat the skidding Minnesota Twins 8-5. The White Sox are in sole possession of first place in the AL Central for the first time this season, ahead of Cleveland and Minnesota. 

—Tyler Glasnow flummoxed the Yankees for six innings, Ji-Man Choi and Kevin Kiermaier homered off Gerrit Cole, and the Tampa Bay Rays extended their mastery of New York with a 5-3 victory. The AL East leaders improved to 7-1 against the Yankees this season and stretched their division cushion to 4 1/2 games. 

—Max Fried improved to 6-0, Austin Riley had a bases-loaded triple and the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves beat the Boston Red Sox 6-3. Adam Duvall belted a homer over the Green Monster and Nick Markakis had three hits and drove in two runs for Atlanta. Alex Verdugo had three doubles for the Red Sox.

—Orlando Arcia's pinch-hit single with two outs in the eighth inning drove in the tiebreaking run as the Milwaukee Brewers slipped past the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-5 on Monday night. Josh Hader pitched a perfect ninth for his eighth save in his first appearance since walking five of the six batters he faced while trying to close out Saturday night's game. Hader has yet to give up a hit this season.

— Paul DeJong (deh-YUHNG') hit his first career grand slam, helping Dakota Hudson to his first win of the season as the St. Louis Cardinals held off the Cincinnati Reds 7-5. Hudson finished with a season-high seven strikeouts and no walks. The Cardinals won their second straight after dropping four in a row. The Reds have lost three of four after winning three straight.

—Spencer Howard threw five effective innings, Rhys (rees) Hoskins homered and drove in three runs and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Washington Nationals 8-6 Monday night. Juan Soto hit a pair of two-run homers and Michael Taylor and Trea Turner also went deep for the defending World Series champions, who fell to 12-20. 

—José Iglesias and Bryan Holaday had RBI doubles in the 11th inning for Baltimore, and Iglesias threw out the potential tying run at home plate as the Orioles salvaged a 4-3 win against the Toronto Blue Jays. Iglesias' leadoff hit, to deep left-center field, scored Anthony Santander, who started the inning at second base. Holaday then doubled to right field to drive in Iglesias. Both hits came off Toronto reliever Anthony Bass. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had an RBI single in the 11th to draw Toronto closer, but was thrown out at the plate.

UNDATED (AP) — The San Diego Padres have acquired Mike Clevinger in a multiplayer trade with the Cleveland Indians, bolstering their rotation with another bold move ahead of baseball's trade deadline. San Diego got Clevinger, outfielder Greg Allen and a player to be named for Cleveland for a package of young players that included outfielder Josh Naylor, right-hander Cal Quantrill and catcher Austin Hedges. 

In other trade activity ahead of the deadline:

— The Oakland Athletics have acquired Mike Minor in a trade with the Texas Rangers, adding another piece to their rotation. Minor has struggled this year, going 0-5 with a 5.60 ERA with Texas, but he went 14-10 with a 3.59 ERA in 32 starts last season. 

— Toronto has acquired left-hander Robbie Ray in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks, giving the Blue Jays a former All-Star who has struggled so far in 2020. The Diamondbacks got lefty Travis Bergen in the deal. Toronto also received cash considerations as part of the trade. 

— The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired right-hander David Phelps from the Milwaukee Brewers before Monday's trade deadline.Phelps is the fourth reliever to join the Phillies in a trade in 10 days. They got Brandon Workman and Heath Hembree from the Red Sox and David Hale from the Yankees on Aug. 21. 

—The San Francisco Giants acquired left-hander Anthony Banda from the Tampa Bay Rays for cash, adding depth to their bullpen. Banda went 1-0 with a 10.29 ERA in four outings with one save over seven innings for the Rays before being designated for assignment. 

—The Chicago Cubs acquired veteran outfielder Cameron Maybin and two left-handed relievers in three trades. The NL Central leaders sent minor league infielder Zack Short to Detroit for Maybin, who is batting .244 with a homer and two RBIs in 14 games this year. The Cubs got Chafin and a cash consideration from Arizona for a player to be named or cash. Osich was acquired in a deal with Boston for a player to be named or cash. 

—The Los Angeles Dodgers have traded right-hander Ross Stripling to the Toronto Blue Jays for two players to be named. The Blue Jays have dramatically bolstered their pitching staff at the deadline with the additions of Stripling, Robbie Ray and Taijuan Walker. Stripling is 3-1 with a 5.61 ERA in seven starts this season for Los Angeles. 

—The New York Mets acquired infielder Todd Frazier and catcher Robinson Chirinos from the Texas Rangers. Texas receives two players to be named. New York also receives cash in the deal involving Chirinos. The Mets also acquired Baltimore right-hander Miguel Castro for minor league left-hander Kevin Smith and a player to be named or cash. New York is bringing Frazier back after he hit 39 home runs for the Mets over two seasons in 2018 and 2019. He hit .241 with two homers in 31 games for Texas this year.

—The Colorado Rockies added outfield depth by acquiring Kevin Pillar from Boston in a trade-deadline deal. The Red Sox received a player to be named or cash and international amateur signing bonus pool space as part of the deal.
