TOPEKA, Kan. — The Buhler High School girls tennis team placed in third as a team at the girls state tennis tournament Saturday afternoon in Topeka.

Buhler finished with 13 points for third while runner-up Circle scored 18 points. Wichita Collegiate won the 2020 state championship with 27 points.

Buhler received seven of its 13 points from senior Brittany Teufel.&nbsp; Teufel placed fourth this year.

Teufel reached the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Bishop Miege’s Lauren Myers, then battled her way back to the semifinals with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Parson’s Gracen Friess.

Teufel ended her day with a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Circle’s Annabelle Adams to place 4th.

In doubles, senior Alex Hutton and sophomore Kayla Babcock reached the semifinals before placing fourth.

The doubles team won their first-round opponent over Topeka Hayden 6-3, 6-2, then reached the semifinals with a 7-6 (2), 6-1 victory over Wellington.

Hutton and Babcock were defeated 6-1, 6-0 by the Wichita Collegient team&nbsp; in the semifinals.

In the third-place match, Hutton and Babcock lost a three-setter to Topeka Hayden’s Jenny Voegeli and Allyson Meier 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.

Buhler should be strong next year as they return Babcock, Lehl, Olivia Frederick and Teagan Nickel.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. –&nbsp;Despite a fast start and an early lead, Kansas fell to West Virginia 38-17 Saturday afternoon at Milan Puskar Stadium. With the loss, KU fell to 0-4 overall, 0-3 in the Big 12 Conference. WVU improved to 3-1, 2-1 on the season.

Coming off a bye, the Jayhawks came ready to play against the Mountaineers. For the second consecutive road game, Kansas scored on its opening possession when redshirt freshman Jacob Borcila connected on a 41-yard field goal with 11:41 on the clock to give KU an early 3-0 lead.

On the offense’s next series, junior quarterback Miles Kendrick connected on a 43-yard pass to senior wide receiver Andrew Parchment in the end zone for a touchdown. Borcila made the PAT to put the Jayhawks ahead 10-0 with 9:31 remaining in the opening quarter.

The Mountaineers responded with two-straight touchdowns to take a 14-10 lead with just more than three minutes remaining in the first half. West Virginia intercepted a Kendrick pass and had enough time to tack on a field goal before halftime. At the intermission, WVU led KU by a score of 17-10.

West Virginia eventually extended its lead to 38-10 in the fourth quarter.

With 1:45 remaining, however, Pooka Williams Jr., took a WVU kickoff back 92 yards for a touchdown. It marked the first kick return for a touchdown by a Jayhawk since 2016 when Laquvionte Gonzalez had a 99-yard touchdown return against Ohio.

Kendrick, making his first career start at Kansas, completed 14-of-23 pass attempts for 95 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions on the afternoon. Williams and Velton Gardner totaled 64 rushing yards for the Jayhawks.

Senior wide receiver Andrew Parchment was the top receiver for Kansas on the afternoon, catching six passes for 65 yards. His long reception of the day, a 43-yard strike from Kendrick, resulted in Parchment’s second touchdown of the season. Parchment now has 11 catches for 197 yards and three touchdowns in two career games against West Virginia.

On the other side of the ball, the defense had an active day for the Jayhawks.

The Kansas defense finished with 10 pass breakups, nine tackles-for-loss and its first two turnovers of the season. The 10 pass breakups are the most by a Kansas team since 2014 when the Jayhawks had 14 against Iowa State. The nine TFLs are also a season high.

Linebacker Denzel Feaster forced a fumble that freshman defensive back Duece Mayberry recovered for the first turnover of the season for Kansas. Later in the game, Malcolm Lee collected his first interception of his career to get the Jayhawks another turnover.

Junior safety Davon Ferguson led the team with nine tackles. Dru Prox and Kenny Logan Jr., each had eight.

Kansas continues its two-game road swing next Saturday (Oct. 24) in Manhattan against Kansas State in the annual Dillons Sunflower showdown. Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m. (CT) from Bill Snyder Family Stadium and will be broadcast live on FS1.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Breylin Smith threw two touchdown passes, and the Central Arkansas defense had seven sacks and forced six turnovers in its 33-24 win over Missouri State. Logan Jessup had 3 1/2 sacks and Cameron Godfrey added two of UCA's four interceptions. UNDATED (AP) — Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin are still the two favorites to race for NASCAR's championship this season and six other drivers are vying for a slot in the finale. The third round of the playoffs begin Sunday at Kansas Speedway and it is a crapshoot between the rest of the field. Brad Keselowski has four wins this season, the most of any driver other than Harvick and Hamlin. Chase Elliott has momentum following his win at Charlotte last week. But a win earns an automatic berth into the final four and the contenders will be seeking victory lane at Kansas.&nbsp;

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Chase Briscoe swept the first two stages of the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Kansas Speedway on Saturday night, then he dominated after a restarted with four laps to go to capture the first race in the round of eight and clinch his spot in the season finale at Phoenix. Daniel Hemric was second and Ryan Sieg, who made a couple of pit gambles that left him with a fresh set of tires with seven laps to go, rallied from 10th on the final restart to finish third. Playoff contender Justin Haley also avoided trouble and was fourth with Josh Williams rounding out the top five.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Brett Moffitt wasn't about to finish second again — not with a spot in the NASCAR Truck Series finale on the line. So when Zane Smith tried to pass him with three laps to go, Moffitt moved down ever so slightly and sent his teammate into a spin along the backstretch. Then, the 28-year-old from Iowa held off a field full of playoff contenders, winning a two-lap shootout to the checkered flag at Kansas Speedway on Saturday. Sheldon Creed won the first two stages and finished second, Austin Hill was third and Grant Enfinger fourth and Chandler Smith rounded out the top five.

CHICAGO (AP) — Djordje Mihailovic scored on the final play of the game to help the Chicago Fire to a 2-2 tie with Sporting Kansas City. Mihailovic beat Chicago goalkeeper Tim Melia to an arcing, last-chance volley by Mauricio Pineda from just beyond midfield, cut back to evade a defended and then rolled in an empty-netter in the fifth minute of stoppage time. Chicago (5-8-5) has just one loss in its last six games and moved above the playoff line. Erik Hurtado and Gadi Kinda each scored a goal for Sporting.&nbsp;

Rays win AL pennant; Dodgers stretch NLCS to limit 

UNDATED (AP) — The American League Championship Series is over, but there's one game left in the National League Championship. The Tampa Bay Rays have claimed their first AL pennant in 12 years and now await the winner of Sunday's NLCS game between the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Charlie Morton silenced his former team and the Rays belted a pair of early homers to beat the Astros, 4-2. Morton held Houston to two hits and one walk while striking out six over 5 2/3 scoreless innings before handing it over to the bullpen. 

Morton has won all four of his starts in winner-take-all situations.

Series MVP Randy Arozarena (ah-roh-zah-RAY'-nah) got the Rays going with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first, one inning before Mike Zunino (zoo-NEE'-noh) went deep off Astros starter Lance McCullers. Zunino added a sacrifice fly in the sixth to give Tampa Bay a four-run cushion.

However, the Astros had a chance to take the lead in the eighth after Carlos Correa slapped a two-run single. But Peter Fairbanks fanned Alex Bregman with runners on first and second to end the threat.

The Dodgers have stretched the NLCS to the limit after trailing it three games to one.

Corey Seager and Justin Turner hit back-to-back homers in the first inning before Walker Buehler completed six scoreless frames to lead the Dodgers past the Braves, 3-1. Seager put L.A. ahead to stay with his third homer in two games. 

Cody Bellinger added an RBI single in the first off losing pitcher Max Fried (freed), who was reached for eight hits and four walks over 6 2/3 innings.

Buehler allowed seven hits but no walks while striking out six.

The Braves didn't score until Ronald Acuna (ah-KOON'-yah) Jr.'s RBI double in the eighth off Blake Treinen.

Kenley Jansen needed to throw just six pitches to record the final three outs for his first save.

UNDATED (AP) — Second-ranked Alabama had the much better passing attack in Saturday's showdown with No. 3 Georgia.

Mac Jones passed for 417 yards and four touchdowns as the Crimson Tide rallied for a 41-24 win over the Bulldogs.

Javonta Smith caught 11 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns, including one in the fourth quarter that effectively put it out of reach. Jaylen Waddle caught a 90-yard touchdown pass and gained 161 yards on six catches.

The Bulldogs also had trouble stopping Najai Harris, who gained 152 yards on 31 carries against a defense that allowed an average of just 38 yards on the ground this year.

Trailing by four, Alabama scored three straight touchdowns over a 10-minute span of the second half.

Stetson Bennett completed 18 of 40 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns, including an 82-yarder to James Cook. But he threw three interceptions.

The Tide were with head coach Nick Saban after he tested negative for the coronavirus earlier in the day. Saban tested positive during the week before showing up negative on Friday and Saturday.

The biggest upset on a day of stunners was provided by Florida State, which ended Saturday with a 1-3 record.

Jordan Travis ran for two touchdowns and threw a scoring pass to help the Seminoles build big first-half lead before holding off fifth-ranked North Carolina, 31-28. Travis guided an offensive that generated 434 yards but was shut out in the second half.

North Carolina quarterback Sam Howell led three second-half touchdown drives to pull to 31-28, but the Tar Heels had drops on third and fourth down in the final seconds to end the comeback bid.

— Trevor Lawrence set career highs with 404 yards passing and five touchdowns as top-ranked Clemson destroyed Georgia Tech, 73-7. All five scoring strikes came in the first half, including two to Amari Rodgers. The Tigers' 671 yards and 73 points are the most allowed by the Yellow Jackets in the modern era.

— Kyren Williams ran for 127 yards and Ian Book tossed a 13-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter that gave No. 4 Notre Dame the lead for good in a 12-7 decision over Louisville. Williams ran 25 times and had his third 100-yard game of the season as the 4-0 Irish won their 22nd straight at Notre Dame Stadium. 

— No. 11 Texas A&amp;M doubled up Mississippi State, 28-14 as Isaiah Spiller ran for 114 yards and two touchdowns. Kellen Mond threw for two scores and Chase Lane caught two passes, including a 51-yard touchdown reception early in the second half.

— D'Eriq King threw four touchdown passes as No. 13 Miami beat Pittsburgh 31-19. Will Mallory caught two of King's scoring passes as the Hurricanes bounced back from last weekend's 42-17 loss at top-ranked Clemson. 

— Kevin Harris ran for two touchdowns and South Carolina turned three Bo Nix interceptions into points to defeat No. 15 Auburn for the first time in 87 years, 30-22. The Tigers had won eight straight in the series and looked like they had this one under control as they led 9-0 in the opening 10 minutes. 

— Kelvin Joseph and Jami Davis returned interceptions for touchdowns in the first half and Kentucky shut out No. 18 Tennessee in the second half to bury the Volunteers 34-7. It was Kentucky's first win in Neyland Stadium since 1984, the Wildcats' largest margin of victory in Knoxville since 56-0 in 1893 and their most lopsided victory in the series since 1935. 

— Hendon Hooker ran for a career-high 164 yards, scored three TDs and threw for a score in 23rd-ranked Virginia Tech's 40-14 victory over Boston College. Khalil Herbert added 143 yards rushing for the Hokies, who ran for 350 yards in bouncing back from a loss at North Carolina.

Patriots back at work; Denver running backs coach tests positive

UNDATED (AP) — The New England Patriots were back to work on Saturday, one day after a fifth player tested positive for COVID-19 and one day before their twice-postponed game against Denver. 

The Broncos, meanwhile, had coronavirus news of their own Saturday. Running backs coach Curtis Modkins has tested positive and won't make the trip to New England. 

The Jaguars, Falcons, Colts, Panthers and Ravens also have dealt with COVID issues in recent days.. 

The Broncos haven't played since Oct. 1. That's the longest in-season break between games for any team since the NFL postponed all games on the weekend following the 9/11 attacks.

— The Ravens have placed defensive tackle Brandon Williams on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. The eight-year veteran ranks ninth on the team with 15 tackles. The Ravens face Philadelphia Sunday.

— The Jaguars say a player on their practice squad has tested positive for the coronavirus, but they still plan to play the Lions Sunday as scheduled. The player was quarantined, and the team is reviewing contact tracing data to determine what further precautions need to be taken. Jacksonville decided to hold football activities remotely on Saturday in keeping with NFL protocols.

— Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. had a second negative COVID-19 test in 24 hours, clearing him to rejoin his teammates and play in Sunday's game at Pittsburgh. 

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Russell Henley ran off three straight birdies to start the back nine and posted a 5-under 67 to build a three-shot lead going into the final round of the PGA's CJ Cup at Shadow Creek.

Henley began the round four shots back before receiving plenty of help from the other players in his group.

Xander Schauffele (SHOW'-flee) had a three-shot lead going into the weekend, but a pair of late bogeys contributed to a 74. First-round leader Tyrrell Hatton didn't make a birdie until the final hole in a 73.

Of the top 25 players, just two broke par.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Mike Weir was the clubhouse leader when the second round of the Dominion Energy Charity Classic was halted by darkness.

The field tried to finish 36 holes on Saturday after the first round was postponed by rain. Weir surged ahead with a 63 in his second round for a 13-under total, three strokes ahead of Phil Mickelson.

Retief Goosen and Brandt Jobe are tied for third at minus-8.

Mickelson is trying to win for the second time in as many starts on the PGA Tour Champions circuit.

Bassino leads Brignone for Italian 1-2 in season-opening GS

SOELDEN, Austria (AP) — Marta Bassino led Federica Brignone (feh-deh-REE'-kah breen-YOH'-nay) for an Italian 1-2 finish in the season-opening women's World Cup giant slalom.

Hutchinson got it done on the ground and in the air as a 50 yard touchdown catch and run by Treyton Peterson with 14 seconds to go before halftime put the Salthawks up for good and they never looked back.

Campus struck first with a 63 yard run by Sophomore Christian Sicard to take the early lead 7-0.&nbsp; Hutchinson then responded with a long drive to tie it up on a Alec McCuan plunge minutes late.

Both teams exchanged scores before Hutch High Senior Myles Thompson connected with Peterson for the go ahead touchdown catch.&nbsp; Peterson had two TD catches on the night as well.

Hutchinson goes to 6-1 on the year and will match up with the Maize Eagles next Friday night at Gowans Stadium to close out the regular season portion of the schedule.&nbsp; Maize won over league rival Derby 36-35 Friday night which makes the Hutch vs Maize matchup for the league championship a much anticipated game.&nbsp;&nbsp;

🏈 Salthawks improve to 6-1 with impressive win over Campus

College coaches endured a tense time waiting for the NCAA to green light the 2020-21 basketball season.

They knew there was a window the NCAA was looking at to start, likely sometime in late November or early December. They just didn’t have a date. So they did the best they could to prepare for the big moment, yet still found themselves in a scramble once it actually happened.

Even now, six weeks before tipoff, teams are struggling to fill out schedules as the clock keeps ticking.

“We were trading a lot of phone calls, trying to come up with the best solutions,” said Anthony Ruta, director of basketball operations under Arkansas coach Eric Musselman. “You need time because you’re trying to juggle a bunch of different things. You’re trying to check a lot of boxes along the way without compromising yourself in other areas.”

College football ended up with a scattershot plan for starting its season, leaving it up to the various conferences. As a result, some conferences are already playing while others, like the Pac-12 and Big Ten, are still waiting for their seasons to kick off.

The NCAA took a more unified approach to the basketball season, saying it would set a start date for all teams in all conferences.

Word came down in mid-September, when the NCAA said the season will begin on Nov. 25.

Coaches kept in touch with opponents on their original schedules to make sure they were both on the same page. A multitude of factors had to be sifted through.

Because the season was originally slated to begin in early November, the later start date meant several games on the schedule would have to be pushed to another day or eliminated. Many teams don’t want to travel long distances during a pandemic, so finding regional opponents became a priority.

Teams also had to sort through contracts with previously scheduled opponents and work around uncertainties as leagues across the country try to work out conference schedules.

“The problem is we already had the schedule,” West Virginia coach Bob Huggins said. ”(Director of basketball operations Josh Eilert) had done a great job, had us a great nonconference schedule, and then we had to just about totally blow it up and start all over again. It’s been as tough as I can remember in 43 years.”

The NCAA reduced the maximum number of regular-season games from 31 to 27 if a team plays in a multi-team event. The max is 25 without a multi-team event.

One of those, the Maui Invitational, was moved to Asheville, North Carolina. The Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas was canceled and several teams slated to play there are headed to South Dakota instead. The Cancun Challenge was moved from Mexico to Florida and the Empire Classic from Madison Square Garden to the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut.

Many teams are opting to play in smaller events, like the four-team Little Apple Classic at Kansas State and the Champions Classic in Orlando.

The rest of the schedules will be a mix of home and away games. The safety of players and coaches is the top priority, so many programs are looking at nearby opponents so they can travel by bus instead of going through an airport and getting on a plane.

Every state and conference seems to have different standards and individual schools have a variety of testing capabilities, some based on financial restraints. Finding opponents with similar testing standards, or who are at least willing to adhere to possibly more stringent practices, became another piece of the scheduling puzzle.

“It has been frustrating because we don’t know the rules of the game,” Michigan State coach Tom Izzo said. “If we bring in a nonconference team, are they testing the same way, are they following the protocol that the Big Ten would accept? We’re starting to put together a schedule, maybe here and maybe there.”

College coaches still scrambling to fill hoops schedules

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The only member of the Kansas City Chiefs that was available and willing to discuss LeVeon Bell happened to be defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who won't have much of anything to do with him. The Chiefs follow a strict schedule for making coaches and players available to reporters, and coach Andy Reid, general manager Brett Veach and Bell weren't available Friday. But even though offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy likewise refused to discuss Bell's impending arrival, Spagnuolo recalled his time trying to stop the two-time All-Pro and said: "I'm sure our offensive guys will be glad to have him."

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas forward Silvio de Sousa is opting out of the upcoming college basketball season, potentially ending what has been one of the most controversial tenures of anybody to have joined coach Bill Self's blueblood program. Self said in a statement that de Sousa was opting out to "focus on matters in his personal life." Self added that it became clear in recent workouts that de Sousa was distracted, and after the two of them talked recently, "it was clear this was the best decision for him and Kansas basketball to leave the program."

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas coach Les Miles has been cleared to return to the Jayhawks after his positive test for COVID-19. But out of caution the 66-year-old coach has decided to skip the team's trip to West Virginia for Saturday's game. Miles announced last week that routine testing had returned a positive test. He experienced only mild symptoms while he was quarantining, and he was able to work remotely with the Jayhawks during their bye week. Tight ends coach Joshua Eargle will handle head-coaching duties against the Mountaineers, freeing offensive coordinator Brent Dearmon and defensive coordinator D.J. Eliot to focus on their sides of the ball.&nbsp;

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The Southeastern Conference postponed next week's game between Missouri and No. 10 Florida. It's the third league contest moved this week because of COVID-19 outbreaks. The Tigers and Gators will now play Oct. 31. Kentucky and Missouri had been scheduled to play that day, but that game will now be played next Saturday, Oct. 24. Kentucky had been scheduled to play at Georgia that day, but it moves to Halloween. The Gators had at least 21 players and coaches test positive for the coronavirus and dozens more quarantined because of contract tracing.&nbsp;

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Clint Bowyer would not have picked 2020 to be his final season as a NASCAR driver. But he's chosen to make 2020 his final year and will move to the Fox Sports booth next season. Bowyer would have preferred a proper send-off with fans at races and his family and friends along for the final ride. He would have tried for another season if the television job was not offered. In moving to the booth, Bowyer will have a long second career in the sport. His farewell begins Sunday at home track Kansas Speedway.&nbsp;

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Bret Holmes couldn't chase down Cory Heim as the sun set on the ARCA Series finale at Kansas Speedway. It didn't really matter. The 23-year-old from Munford, Alabama, clinched the series championship over Michael Self by finishing second on Friday night. Holmes began the race eight points clear of Michael Self, who had some mechanical issues that put him one lap down early, and only raced for the lead a couple of restarts but otherwise was content to stay out of trouble.

Ex-Angels employee indicted in Tyler Skaggs' fatal overdose

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — A federal grand jury has indicted a former Los Angeles Angels director of communications in Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs' fatal drug overdose. The indictment Thursday in Fort Worth charges Eric Prescott Kay with drug distribution and drug conspiracy. 

Skaggs was found dead in his suburban Dallas hotel room on July 1, 2019, before a game against the Texas Rangers.

A coroner says Skaggs choked to death on his vomit with a toxic mix of alcohol and the drugs fentanyl and oxycodone in his system. 

AP source: Patriots cancel practice, positive COVID-19 test

UNDATED (AP) — A person familiar with the decision tells The Associated Press that the New England Patriots canceled practice Friday after a member of the organization tested positive for COVID-19. The person didn't reveal whether it was a player or a coach.

New England is scheduled to host Denver on Sunday. The game has already been postponed twice because of four positive coronavirus tests by players, including quarterback Cam Newton cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

Earlier Friday, the Indianapolis Colts closed their practice facility after several people tested positive for COVID-19. But retests came back negative and the building reopened.

The Cleveland Browns, who played the Colts on Sunday, said they had zero positive tests Friday morning and their building was open. The Colts host the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday.

The Atlanta Falcons resumed in-person work at their facility Friday under more stringent safety measures. The team closed the building Thursday following a second positive test for COVID-19. One player tested positive earlier in the week. A team spokesman said the second person was not a player. The Falcons are scheduled to play at Minnesota on Sunday.

— The Panthers have placed guard/center Tyler Larsen on the reserve/COVID-19 list, five days after he played against the Falcons. Falcons defensive tackle Marlon Davidson was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Tuesday after Carolina defeated Atlanta 23-16. Larsen didn't start for the Panthers in that game, but did see action as a reserve. 

— Odell Beckham Jr. missed another practice with the Browns due to COVID-19 protocols. Beckham's status remains uncertain after Cleveland's star wide receiver was kept away from the team's facility Friday for the second straight day. Beckham tested negative for coronavirus Friday, but league guidelines say he can't rejoin his teammates and practice until he has a second negative test within a 24-hour period. He's listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Pittsburgh.

— The Arizona Department of Health Services is permitting the Cardinals to host a crowd of up to 1,200 people for the team's next home game against the Seahawks on Oct. 25. Seats will be available to those with season tickets based on order of account seniority. Masks are mandatory. 

— Maryland has given approval to the Ravens and Washington Football Team to sell a limited number of tickets.

UNDATED (AP) — Seven-time Pro Bowl receiver Julio Jones returned to practice as a limited participant Friday and hopes to play Sunday when the Falcons visit the Vikings.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — SMU fought off an upset bid before keeping their perfect record intact.

Brandon Crossley ended the first overtime possession with an interception and Chris Naggar (nah-GAHR') made a 34-yard field goal to give the 17th-ranked Mustangs a 37-34 victory over Tulane.

Crossley intercepted Tulane freshman Michael Pratt's pass to put the Mustangs in position to win with the field goal.

The Green Wave rallied to force overtime on Merek Glover's 27-yard field goal with 1:30 left.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Xander Schauffele (SHOW'-flee) dominated the back nine in taking a three-shot lead over Tyrrell Hatton in the second round of the PGA's CJ Cup.

Schauffele made seven birdies over an eight hole stretch, including six in a row. The birdie run gave him a career-best 29 on the back nine and an 8-under 64 for the day.

Hatton rallied to close with a pair of birdies for a 68 after entering the round with a one-stroke lead.

Russell Henley was another shot back at 10-under following a 68.

First round of PGA Tour Champions postponed by rain

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The first round of the Dominion Energy Charity Classic was postponed Friday because of rain.

The 54-hole tournament at the Country Club of Virginia was to be Phil Mickelson's second start on the PGA Tour Champions. He won his debut on the over-50 tour at Ozarks National in August.

NCAA penalizes UMass for violations in basketball, tennis

UNDATED (AP) — The NCAA is stripping the University of Massachusetts of victories in men's basketball and women's tennis for overpaying 12 athletes about $9,100 in financial aid over three years. 

The NCAA announced Friday it had imposed a two-year probation on UMass that will end October 2022, It's also vacating results involving athletes who received what were determined to be inappropriate benefits. UMass plans to appeal the committee's decision to vacate victories from 2014-17 that include 59 basketball wins and an Atlantic 10 Conference championship in women's tennis.
