Buhler Girl's place 3rd at State Tennis

TOPEKA, Kan. — The Buhler High School girls tennis team placed in third as a team at the girls state tennis tournament Saturday afternoon in Topeka.

Buhler finished with 13 points for third while runner-up Circle scored 18 points. Wichita Collegiate won the 2020 state championship with 27 points.

Buhler received seven of its 13 points from senior Brittany Teufel.  Teufel placed fourth this year.

Teufel reached the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Bishop Miege’s Lauren Myers, then battled her way back to the semifinals with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Parson’s Gracen Friess.

Teufel ended her day with a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Circle’s Annabelle Adams to place 4th.

In doubles, senior Alex Hutton and sophomore Kayla Babcock reached the semifinals before placing fourth.

The doubles team won their first-round opponent over Topeka Hayden 6-3, 6-2, then reached the semifinals with a 7-6 (2), 6-1 victory over Wellington.

Hutton and Babcock were defeated 6-1, 6-0 by the Wichita Collegient team  in the semifinals.

In the third-place match, Hutton and Babcock lost a three-setter to Topeka Hayden’s Jenny Voegeli and Allyson Meier 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.

Buhler should be strong next year as they return Babcock, Lehl, Olivia Frederick and Teagan Nickel.
