The Dodgers said Friday that he had a heart attack at his home in Fullerton. Resuscitation attempts were made en route to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday. Lasorda had a history of heart problems, including a heart attack in 1996 that ended his managerial career.

The 34-year-old Espinoza has led Sporting KC to seven playoff appearances and three U.S. Open championships during one of the longest tenures in club history. He ranks third with 301 appearances over two separate stints with the club, and he is fifth in both starts with 271 and minutes with more than 24,000. He also has scored 12 goals with 41 assists.

Joe Harris poured in 28 points off the bench and Caris LeVert made the most of a rare start as the Nets topped the 76ers, 122-109. LeVert fell three rebounds shy of a triple-double, delivering 22 points and 10 assists to help Brooklyn drop Philadelphia to 7-2.

Jarrett Allen chipped in 15 points and 11 rebounds to the Nets' second straight win.

Durant missed the game because of the NBA's health and safety protocols. Irving was a late scratch due to personal reasons.

— LaMarcus Aldridge led San Antonio with a season-high 28 points and was one of five in double figures during a 118-109 victory against the Lakers. Demar DeRozan added 19 points and eight assists, for the Spurs, who were 16 of 35 on 3-pointers after making 20 from beyond the arc against the Clippers this week. LeBron James scored 27 points and Anthony Davis added 23 points and 10 rebounds for the Lakers, who had their four-game winning streak snapped.

Corey Kispert finished with 23 points in a hastily scheduled game after both teams lost their original opponents to COVID-19 issues. Jalen Suggs provided with 16 points, while Drew Timme (TIH'-mee) and Andrew Nembhard each scored 12 in Gonzaga's 45th straight home win.

— Tyler Wahl drained consecutive 3-pointers in double-overtime and finished with a career-high 12 points as eighth-ranked Wisconsin pulled out an 80-73 win over Indiana. D'Mitrik (dih-MEE'-trihk) Trice scored a team-high 21 points, had seven assists and extended the game by draining a jumper with 7.7 seconds left in the first OT.

— Kofi Cockburn scored 13 of his 18 points in the second half and finished with 12 rebounds as 12th-ranked Illinois blew out Northwestern, 81-56. Ayo Dosunmu (EYE'-oh doh-SOO'-moo) added 15 points for the Illini, who actually trailed by 16 in the first half.

— McKinley Wright IV recovered from a scary fall to score 21 points, including a game-sealing scoop layup with 27 seconds left in Colorado's 79-71 upset of No. 17 Oregon. Grad transfer Jeriah Horne added 17 points for the Buffaloes, who improved to 10-0 against the Ducks all-time in Boulder.

Top recruit Nimari Burnett leaving Texas Tech after 12 games

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Texas Tech freshman Nimari Burnett is leaving the program just 12 games into his college career.

The program's first McDonald's All-American was a high school standout in Chicago and consensus top 30 recruit nationally. But Burnett never cracked the starting lineup in a crowded backcourt while averaging 5.3 points.

Burnett was struggling offensively, shooting 28% from the field and just 17% from 3-point range. 

Mega deal: Indians trade star Lindor, Carrasco to Mets

CLEVELAND (AP) — The New York Mets have pulled off their biggest trade since Steve Cohen purchased the team in November.

The Mets have landed shortstop Francisco Lindor and pitcher Carlos Carrasco from Cleveland. The Mets part with infielders Andres Gimenez and Amed Rosario, right-hander Josh Wolf and outfielder Isaiah Greene.

A two-time Gold Glove winner, Lindor is a career .285 hitter and has averaged 29 homers, 86 RBIs and 21 steals in his six major league seasons. Carrasco is one of the game's best comeback stories, overcoming leukemia to reemerge as one of the AL's steadiest starters.

Rosario was a Mets mainstay the last two seasons, and Gimenez showed major league ability following his recall last year.

Lindor can become a free agent after the 2021 season, and Carrasco has two years and an option left on his contract. Mets president Sandy Alderson says he hasn't spoken to Lindor's agent about an extension.

— The Yankees have acquired switch-hitting outfielder Greg Allen from the Padres for minor league left-hander James Reeves. The 27-year-old Allen has a .239 average with eight homers and 57 RBIs in 557 at-bats and 221 games over four seasons with Cleveland and San Diego. 

— Bianca Smith will make history in March when she begins her job as a Red Sox minor league coach, becoming the first Black woman in Major League Baseball history to serve as an on-field coach. She comes to Boston from Division III Carroll University where she was an assistant athletic director and baseball team hitting coordinator. She also has previously interned for the Cincinnati Reds, Texas Rangers and in the MLB league office.

Browns place safety Ronnie Harrison on COVID-19 list

UNDATED (AP) — The Cleveland Browns continue to receive bad news as they deal with COVID-19 while preparing for Sunday's AFC wild-card game against Pittsburgh.

The Browns have placed safety Rodney Harrison on the COVID-19 reserve list as they await permission from the NFL to practice for their first playoff game in 18 years.

Harrison is the latest on the list for the Browns, who will be without coach Kevin Stefanski against the Steelers after he tested positive with the virus. The NFL's chief medical officer says there has been "some spread" amongst the Browns players.

Safety Andrew Sendejo was activated from the COVID list as Harrison was added, but the team is down seven rotational players and six coaches at this point and its training facility in Berea, Ohio, remains closed. 

— Rams coach Sean McVay and Jared Goff both declined Thursday to say whether the quarterback will return from a one-game absence with a broken thumb to start against the Seahawks. Although backup John Wolford led the Rams to a season-ending win over Arizona last week, observers say Goff emerged from this full week of practice at the Rams' training complex looking like he's ready to play.

— The Texans have hired Nick Caserio to be their general manager. The longtime executive with the New England Patriots replaces Bill O'Brien, who was the team's coach and GM before he was fired after this season's 0-4 start. Caserio has spent the last 20 seasons with the Patriots and has been the director of player personnel in New England since 2008. 

— The playing status of Bills' receivers Stefon Diggs and Cole Beasley is uncertain for Saturday's game against the Colts. Both were listed as questionable after practicing on a limited basis on Thursday. Beasley has been dealing with a knee injury and Diggs is bothered by am oblique issue.

UNDATED (AP) — Alabama receiver and Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith has added to his collection of postseason honors by receiving the Maxwell Award as the college football player of the year.

Smith won the Maxwell over Alabama quarterback and Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence, becoming the first wideout to win the award since Michigan's Desmond Howard in 1991. 

Smith also won the Walter Camp player of the year and the Biletnikoff Award as the nation's top receiver.

It was a big haul of awards for Alabama products. Jones won the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback of the Year Award. Najee Harris captured the Doak Walker Award as the top running back. Offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood became the sixth Crimson Tide player to win the Outland Trophy as the outstanding interior lineman, and teammate Landon Dickerson won the Rimington Trophy as the top center.

Canadiens approved for home games during pandemic

MONTREAL (AP) — The Montreal Canadiens will be able to play home games despite the Quebec government's imposition of a curfew aimed at curbing COVID-19 in the province. 

Quebec's premier says the new measures will take effect Saturday and remain in place until at least Feb. 8. There will be no fans at games. 

Alberta and British Columbia also have given the green light for their NHL teams to play home games during the pandemic. Manitoba says it is confident the Winnipeg Jets can play home games. Ontario has yet to make a final decision.

Kansas State women’s basketball is currently unable to meet the roster thresholds to play games established by the Big 12 Conference for the 2020-21 season.

K-State continues pause in all women's basketball activities

TOPEKA, Kan.—Due to COVID19 changes in the postseason structure have been made by the Executive Board.&nbsp; Sub-state assignments were released this week and are listed below.

Classes 1A-DI and 1A-D2 will be grouped geographically into groups of six or seven schools. Playing dates are February 25 and 26 for quarterfinal contests at the higher seed. Semi-finals and finals will be played at the primary site on March 4, 5, 6.

Classes 2A and 3A will be grouped geographically into groups of eight schools. Playing dates are March 1, 2, 4, 5, 6. Quarterfinal games will be played at the higher seeded team on March 1 and 2. Semi-finals and finals will be played at the primary site.

Classes 4A, 5A and 6A will be grouped geographically into groups of four or five schools. The groups that have 5 teams will play the #4 vs. #5 seed game on Saturday, February 27. Semi-final games will be played on Tuesday, March 2 and Wednesday, March 3 at the higher seeded team. Finals will be played on Friday, March 5 and Saturday, March 6. State quarterfinal games will be played on Monday, March 8 and Tuesday, March 9 at school sites. Four teams will advance to the state sites.

Houston's second-half run sinks Shockers

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Damien Jefferson scored 16 of his season-high 19 points in the first half and No. 7 Creighton got off to a fast start on its way to an 89-53 victory over Seton Hall. The Bluejays won their fifth straight game with their biggest conference win since beating St. John's 100-59 in February 2016. The loss ended Seton Hall's three-game win streak and was coach Kevin Willard's most lopsided defeat in his 11 seasons. Denzel Mahoney had 14 points and Marcus Zegarowski added 11 for the Bluejays. Sandro Mamukelashvili led the Pirates with 14 points and Jared Rhoden had 10.

UNDATED (AP) — In a normal season, Chiefs defensive players would be gathering at Tyrann Mathieu's house on Thursday nights for cards, wings and some football. The Super Bowl champs had to find other ways to bond during a season marked by a pandemic, beginning with socially distanced ribbing in the locker room and running gags among teammates on Twitter. Justin Gorham added 14 points and 10 rebounds, and DeJon Jarreau finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds and five assists for Houston. Tyson Etienne had 25 points and eight rebounds, and Dexter Dennis scored 18 points for the Shockers, whose five-game winning streak ended.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Elena Tsineke made five 3-pointers and scored a career-high 31 points to lead No. 18 South Florida to a 66-48 victory over Wichita State. South Florida (8-1, 5-0 American Athletic Conference) has won seven straight and will play its third game in eight days, hosting Houston in a rescheduled game on Saturday. Tsineke matched her previous career best of 25 points with 4:33 left in the third quarter and did not play the last five minutes of the game. Asia Strong had 17 points and seven rebounds for Wichita State (3-5, 0-3).&nbsp;

UNDATED (AP) — Bradley Beal became the second NBA player to post a 60-point performance, but it didn't stop the Philadelphia 76ers from improving to 7-1.

Joel Embiid (joh-EHL' ehm-BEED') scored 38 points as the Sixers downed the Wizards, 141-136.

Seth Curry hit six straight 3-pointers in the first half and finished with 28 points. Ben Simmons had 17 points and 12 assists, while Tobias Harris scored 19.

— Rookie Payton Pritchard's putback with two-tenths of a second left capped a wild finish in the Celtics' 107-105 verdict over the Heat. Jayson Tatum scored 27 points and Jaylen Brown had 21 for the Celtics, who wasted an early 17-point lead and a 10-point advantage in the final minute before winning. Both teams considered boycotting the game following the rioting at the Capitol.

— The Suns made 21 3-pointers en route to a 123-115 victory over the sputtering Raptors. — Kawhi (kah-WY') Leonard scored 21 points, including the tying and go-ahead buckets on consecutive possessions in the fourth quarter of the Clippers' 108-101 of the Warriors. Paul George returned from a one-game absence with a sore right ankle to add 21 points and 12 rebounds in the Clippers' fourth straight win against Golden State. Warriors guard Stephen Curry had just 13 points on 5 of 17 shooting after scoring a combined 92 in his previous two games.

— Malcolm Brogdon scored a career-high 35 points and made the go-ahead 3-pointer with 2:22 remaining to send the Pacers past the Rockets, 114-107. Justin Holiday added a season-high 20 points for Indiana, which closed on an 8-0 run to beat Houston at home for the first time in four years. Rockets guard John Wall had a season-high 28 points in his fourth game with his new team, but James Harden finished with 15.

— Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 21 points and George Hill provided the go-ahead free throws with 12 seconds left to send the Thunder past the Pelicans, 111-110. Darius Bazley had 20 points and 12 rebounds for Oklahoma City, which avenged a home loss to New Orleans last week while winning for just the second time in six games. — Austin Rivers scored 14 straight Knicks points down the stretch and finished with 23 in a 112-100 comeback over the Jazz. — Gordon Hayward poured in a career-high 44 points and the Hornets coughed up a double-digit lead before knocking off the Hawks, 102-94. LaMelo Ball had 16 points and eight rebounds for Charlotte, which led by 24 in the first half. John Collins had 23 points and 11 boards for the Hawks, but Trae Young finished with just seven points on 2 of 9 from the field.

— Terrence Ross scored 20 points and hit five 3-pointers to lead the Magic to a 105-94 decision over the Cavaliers. But Orlando guard Markelle Fultz suffered an apparently serious knee injury less than five minutes into the game. Fultz came in averaging a career-best 14.3 points in seven games.

— Buddy Hield (heeld) converted a four-point play with 38 seconds left to push the Kings past the Bulls, 128-124. Hield missed 12 of his first 14 shots and was 1 of 8 on 3-pointers before hitting one from the top of the arc and getting fouled by former Kings teammate Garrett Temple. Sacramento first-round draft pick Tyrese Haliburton scored 15 of his season-high 17 points in the fourth quarter and made a key steal in the backcourt. 

— Several teams showed dismay hours after a violent mob loyal to President Donald Trump was able to storm the U.S. Capitol and in response to a decision by a Wisconsin prosecutor not to charge a police officer who shot a Black man last year. In Miami, the Heat and Celtics released a joint statement saying they were playing "with a heavy heart" in a game where most players and coaches knelt for the national anthem. In Milwaukee, both the Bucks and Pistons intentionally took turnovers on their first possessions, with all 10 players on the court kneeling. 

Cavs' Garland has shoulder sprain, Exum could miss 2 months

UNDATED (AP) — Cleveland Cavaliers starting guard Darius Garland could be out another week with a shoulder sprain, and guard Danté Exum could miss two months with a calf strain. 

Garland began experiencing discomfort in his shoulder last week. He was kept out of Monday's loss and underwent an MRI. The second-year guard is averaging 17.2 points and 6.3 assists in six starts. 

Exum injured his calf in the first quarter Monday.

UNDATED (AP) — The Cleveland Browns continue to work virtually while trying to get a handle on a COVID-19 situation that has knocked coach Kevin Stefanski out of Sunday's playoff game in Pittsburgh.

Stefanski says he feels well despite contracting COVID-19, but that he's obviously disappointed he'll have to miss Cleveland's first playoff game since the 2002 season.

Stefanski was one of five positive tests for the Browns on Tuesday. He is working from home as the team's facility remains closed.
