GODDARD, Kan.—The Salthawk Boys Basketball Team won back to back games for the first time since 2013-14 season by rolling Eisenhower 66-47 at Goddard Eisenhower Friday night.

Hutch was led by Myles Thompson with 18 points.&nbsp; Treyton Peterson, Jake Huhs and Garrett Robinson each had 8 points to give the Salthawks a comfortable lead at half time 35-22.

In the first quarter, with 3:43 remaining the game was tied at 8-8 and then Hutch went on a 10-o run to lead 18-8 at the end of the first quarter.

The Salthawks locked in on defense in the final quarter after the game tightened up to only a 5 point Salthawk lead then Thompson and Robinson took over to hit big baskets down the stretch to get the win.

Hutchinson returns to league play next Tuesday night on the road at Derby .

KANSAS CITY, MO – The Kansas City Royals announced their 2020 team award winners on Friday, which were voted on by the Kansas City Chapter of the BBWAA. Catcher Salvador Perez was named the Les Milgram Player of the Year, right-hander Brad Keller earned the Bruce Rice Pitcher of the Year, while outfielder Alex Gordon received the Joe Burke Special Achievement Award.

Perez, 30, who was also named MLB Comeback Player of the Year, a Louisville Silver Slugger and a first-team All-MLB selection this offseason, returned to the club after missing the entire 2019 campaign. He hit a career-best .333 with 11 homers and 32 RBI over 37 games. The six-time All-Star catcher added 12 doubles, 22 runs scored, 17 walks and one stolen base, while recording a .353 on-base percentage and a career-high .633 slugging percentage, which was the second highest in franchise history behind only Hall of Famer George Brett, who amassed a .664 mark during his AL MVP Award-winning season in 1980. The 11 home runs hit by Perez led the team and were tied for third-most by a player who played 37 games-or-fewer, trailing only Hall of Famers Frank Thomas (12 in 34 games) in 2005 and Ted Williams (13 in 37 games) in 1953. Additionally, the Valencia, Venezuela native paced the Royals with eight go-ahead RBI and finished second on the team in RBI and extra-base hits (23). This marks Perez’s first Player of the Year award.

Keller, 25, led the Royals with five wins in his nine starts, despite missing the club’s first 13 games of the season on the Injured List. He went 5-3 with a 2.47 ERA (15 ER in 54.2 IP) overall, which included going 4-0 with a 0.27 ERA (1 ER in 33.0 IP) at Kauffman Stadium, posting the best single-season home ERA since 1920 (min. 5 starts). His overall ERA ranked fifth in the American League and was the lowest by a Royals starter since Zack Greinke’s 2.16 mark during his 2009 Cy Young Award-winning season (min. 9 starts). Keller went 3-0 through his first three starts of the season, allowing no runs in his first 17.2 innings, joining Greinke as the only Royals to win their first three starts of a season and not allow a run, while he is one of six pitchers in the Majors to accomplish that feat since the mound was lowered in 1969. He recorded his first career shutout in Kansas City’s 11-0 win vs. Pittsburgh on Sept. 13, allowing five hits and a walk with two strikeouts, which was the team’s only individual shutout in 2020. This marks Keller’s second Pitcher of the Year award, also receiving the honor in 2018.

Gordon, who retired at the end of the 2020 season, earned his second Rawlings Platinum Glove and his eighth Rawlings Gold Glove, to match Frank White for the most in franchise history. HUTCHINSON, Kan.—A couple of milestones were reached on Thursday night in the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team's home opener.

First-year head coach Delice Downing earned her first win on the Blue Dragon bench and the Blue Dragon program earned all-time victory No. 1,100.

Hutchinson earns its first win of the season and evened its Jayhawk West record with a 3-0 sweep of the Pratt Beavers (25-15, 25-16, 25-20) at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. The Blue Dragons extended their winning streak against Pratt to 22 matches.

The Blue Dragons hit only .122 for the match, but held the Beavers to .011 hitting.

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2020-21/bios/thorne_jenna_xncq">Jenna Thorne</a>&nbsp;led the Blue Dragons with nine kills and 12 digs. She also added an ace.

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2020-21/bios/lettries_myracle_x6su">Myracle Lettries</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2020-21/bios/larson_taegan_9xc6">Taegen Larsen</a>&nbsp;came off the bench to produce five kills each. Lettries, who had four kills in the opening set, also had two block assists. Larsen finished with an ace and two block assists. Sophomore setter&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2020-21/bios/price_chloe_rbgs">Chloe Price</a>&nbsp;finished with 23 assists and four service aces. Freshman libero&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2020-21/bios/reeder_shelby_zpe9">Shelby Reeder</a>&nbsp;had 14 digs.

The Blue Dragons out-blocked Pratt 5-3 and had eight service aces.

Avery Smith had eight kills to lead Pratt. The Beavers had 21 attack errors and 13 service errors to help Hutchinson's cause.

Leading 4-2 early in the opening set, Lettries provided an early spark with a kill and block assists in a 6-0 run that gave Hutchinson a 10-2 lead. Another Lettries kill and one of 10 Beaver attack errors in the opening set gave the Dragons a 16-6 lead. Leading 20-14, the Blue Dragons closed the set with a 5-1 run. Thorne finished off the set with a kill for a 25-15 lead.

Pratt held their only leads of the match early in the second set at 4-3 and 9-7 and 13-12. The Blue Dragons countered with a four-point run capped by Price's kill on an over-dig for an 11-9 Hutch lead. With the set tied at 14, Price put together an eight-point service run with three aces. Back-to-back ace serves capped the run for a 22-14 Dragon lead. Leading 23-16, a Larsen kill and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2020-21/bios/lane_kenna_obyd">Kenna Lane</a>&nbsp;ace, the last of seven Hutchinson aces in the set, finished off Pratt.

The Blue Dragons led the third set 5-4 and took control with an 8-1 run for a 13-6 lead. Pratt kept it close and trailed 18-15 after a Yianmaire Catala ace. Kills by Thorne, Larsen and Murrell were part of four-unanswered points for the Dragons giving Hutch a 22-15 lead. Leading 23-19, Thorne had a kill and the team's traded service errors on the final two rallies of the match for Hutch's first sweep of the season.

The 1-1 Blue Dragons play three matches on Saturday at the Laramie County Classic in Cheyenne Wyoming. Hutch returns to the Sports Arena on Tuesday to take on Barton. &nbsp;

UNDATED (AP) — The Los Angeles Lakers have their first losing streak of the season.

Blake Griffin scored 23 points in leading Detroit's 107-92 win over the Lakers. Griffin's 3-pointer with 6:54 remaining started a 16-0 run that put the Pistons ahead by 17.

LeBron James had 22 points and 10 assists, but only two of those points came after halftime.

UNDATED (AP) — Atlanta Hawks guard Kris Dunn will be out at least another two weeks as he continues his recovery from ankle surgery.

Dunn signed with the Hawks as a free agent and was expected to be a defensive stopper in the backcourt, but he has yet to play for his new team. Dunn underwent surgery on his right ankle Dec. 29. 

UNDATED (AP) — Top-ranked Gonzaga picked up its 20th straight win since last season and improved to 16-0 this season.

UNDATED (AP) — The Carolina Hurricanes made a triumphant return to the ice after having several games postponed due to COVID-19 protocols.

The Hurricanes still were without five regulars on Thursday as they beat the Tampa Bay Lightning, 1-0 in overtime. Martin Necas (NAY'-chas) provided the lone goal 72 seconds into OT on a feed from Jordan Staal, who was among six Hurricanes to land on the NHL's daily unavailability list last week.

Petr Mrazek stopped 31 shots in his second shutout of the season and 23rd of his career.

The Hurricanes were back in action just as Thursday's game between the Blues and Golden Knights had to be postponed due to COVID-19 issues with Vegas. 

The NHL says a Golden Knights player and another coach have entered COVID-19 protocol, which could mean a positive test, potential exposure or something else. 

The Knights played Tuesday without their entire coaching staff as general manager Kelly McCrimmon ran the bench with the minor league coaching staff.

Bowey agrees to 2-year contract with Blackhawks

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to a two-year contract with defenseman Madison Bowey. Bowey's contract has a $725,000 salary cap hit. The first season is a two-way deal and it transitions to a one-way deal for the 2021-22 season. The 25-year-old Bowey set career highs with three goals and 14 assists in 53 games for Detroit last season.

AP source: QB Watson requests trade as Texans hire new coach

UNDATED (AP) — Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson has requested a trade, according to a person familiar with the move.

Watson has a no-trade clause in his four-year, $156 million contract, so he could have some control over where he might be dealt.

The same source who told The AP about the trade request said Watson made the ask before David Culley was hired as head coach on Wednesday.

The Texans don't want to part with the talented 25-year-old who led the NFL in yards passing this season. 

Watson has been unhappy with the direction of the team for some time. Sports Illustrated reported weeks ago that Watson was upset the team didn't initially request to interview Kansas City offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy (bee-EN'-uh-mee) for its coaching vacancy. 

— The Steelers are open to having quarterback Ben Roethlisberger return next season if the math works out. Roethlisberger carries a $41 million salary cap hit for 2021, a number team president Art Rooney II says is too high. Rooney says the team has already approached Roethlisberger about finding a workaround that gives the team some financial flexibility in the offseason. 

— Tom Brady says his parents are doing well after battling COVID-19 early this season and will be among family in the stands to root for him and the Buccaneers in next week's Super Bowl. Brady's father, Tom, Sr., recently revealed that he and his wife, Galynn, had a bout with COVID-19 in September. 

UNDATED (AP) — Masahiro Tanaka is returning to pitch for his former team in Japan after seven seasons with the New York Yankees. 

The Rakuten Eagles of the Pacific League say the 32-year-old free agent had signed a two-year contract that local media report is worth almost $9 million annually. 

Tanaka went 78-46 with a 3.74 ERA and 991 strikeouts in 1,054 1/3 innings over seven seasons with the Yankees. The right-hander pitched for Rakuten from 2007-13, going 24-0 with a 1.27 ERA in his final season and leading the Eagles to the Japan Series title.

—The Brewers have promoted Sara Goodrum to minor league hitting coordinator. Brewers vice president of minor league operations Tom Flanagan says that "to our knowledge, she would be the first" woman to hold that position in any Major League Baseball organization. Goodrum played softball for Oregon from 2012-15 and had spent the last three seasons in the Brewers' sports science department.

— Former Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria has reached a lawsuit settlement to reimburse local government $4.2 million for the cost of building Marlins Park, which opened in 2012. In 2009, local government agreed to help pay for the ballpark in exchange for Loria's pledge to share profits if he later sold the team. 

— Right-hander Kohl Stewart has agreed to a one-year contract with the Cubs after he opted out of last season because of the coronavirus pandemic. Stewart last pitched in the majors in 2019, going 2-2 with a 6.39 ERA in nine appearances with Minnesota. 

Tampa's mayor issues outdoor mask order for Super Bowl

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Anyone visiting Tampa's popular outdoor destinations for the Super Bowl will be required to wear a mask to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Tampa Mayor Jane Castor signed an executive order Wednesday saying masks must be worn outside while downtown, in neighborhoods around Raymond James Stadium and in other tourist hotspots.

The order says those who are not wearing a mask can be cited with a "nominal civil infraction" that carries a penalty up to a $500 fine. It will remain in place until Feb. 13 — nearly a week after the Super Bowl ends. 

TORREY PINES, Calif. (AP) — Patrick Reed and Alex Noren share the first-round lead in the PGA's Farmers Insurance Open.

Reed and Noren each opened with 64's that put them one ahead of Scott Scheffler.

LAWRENCE, Kan.&nbsp;– No. 15 Kansas defeated TCU, 59-51, with the help of double-figure scoring efforts from juniors David McCormack and Ochai Agbaji inside Allen Fieldhouse on Thursday night.

McCormack led the team with 15 points, in addition to grabbing six rebounds, blocking a shot and making a steal. Agbaji added 13 points of his own along with three rebounds and a team-leading four assists.

The game was a back-and-forth contest all evening, with both teams struggling to make shots fall, but it was the Jayhawks who pulled through and came out on top. With the win, Kansas improves to 11-5 overall and 5-4 in Big 12 Conference play while TCU’s records fall to 9-6 and 2-5, respectively.

After a low scoring first half by each team, Kansas entered the locker room down one and in need of a change in momentum.

Out of the intermission, the Jayhawks’ lineup was switched with junior Tyon Grant-Foster and redshirt-freshman Dajuan Harris Jr., on the court. In the end, the duo provided the spark that the Jayhawks had been looking for all night. Harris was on the floor during most of the second half and boosted Kansas defensively, stealing the ball three times and converting two points off of TCU mistakes. He ended the night with seven points on 75% (3-of-4) shooting from the field to go along with three assists, three steals and a rebound.

Grant-Foster made his presence on the court known in his 17 minutes played, tallying nine points and five rebounds and giving Kansas the energy it needed to pull away from TCU in the final minutes.

The momentum shift was aided by a pair of back-to-back dunks by Agbaji and senior Marcus Garrett which put Kansas up 10 points, its biggest lead of the night. Kansas did not relinquish the lead and went on to beat the Horned Frogs in a hard-fought contest.

On the defensive end, Kansas held TCU to 35% (19-of-54) shooting from the field and 38% (8-of-21) from beyond the arc in addition to forcing 22 Horned Frog turnovers.

STAT OF THE GAME 14 –&nbsp;Tonight’s contest marked the 14th time that the Jayhawks’ starting lineup featured the combination of Marcus Garrett, Ochai Agbaji, Christian Braun, Jalen Wilson and David McCormack. Kansas improved to 9-5 when starting that particular lineup.

Kansas last played in Allen Fieldhouse on Jan. 9 in a victory against Oklahoma. TCU last played a game on Jan. 12 and had three games postponed due to COVID-19 protocol.

Kansas is 21-2 all-time against TCU in a series which dates back to 1952 when the Jayhawks defeated the Horned Frogs, 68-64, on March 21 in the NCAA Midwest Regional at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri. Nuggets' Murray fined $25,000 for striking Hardaway's groin

UNDATED (AP) — Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray has been fined $25,000 by the NBA for a shot to the groin area of Dallas' Tim Hardaway Jr. during Monday's win over the Mavericks.

The initial call was a foul on Murray and was upgraded to a flagrant-2 foul after a video review.

Murray was ejected after the apparently intentional act in the third quarter of the game.
